Regardless of what there web site says, the pair of NB I bought last fall say Made in China on the tag located on the tongue. All the Men's NB at Big5 and Kohls had Made in China printed on the shoes tongue as of Saturday August 11th.

In some cases a part can be made in a foreign country but because a finishing step was completed here in the US it now is justified as Made in USA or Assembled in USA. I call this the Green back loop (lots of green from screwing your back side with this loop hole)
here is a statement from new balance "In a global economy, where quality components come from all over the world, New Balance continues to manufacture a percentage of its shoes in the USA. New Balance has five factories in New England - three in Maine and two in Massachusetts. With a high-quality labor force, unique modular teams that are continually challenged to offer creative alternatives to foreign competition and the confidence to be different, New Balance is able to survive and thrive, taking a leadership position in an industry that has sent most of its production overseas."

They dont mention the 45 factories they have in China (just kidding i dont really know how many they have)

Yeah I don't know about what they think they are saying. I only saw 100% Chinese made NB the other day. Mady be the shoe laces were made in there US "manufacturing" facilities. It would interesting to know what the percent really is.

I just bought some tooth paste last night that was Made In Mexico. Some of the "others" only had "distributed" locations in the US printed which tells me they weren't made in North America.

Did I miss something in the story? I didn't see where the Chinese made the plane, was it another joint venture...I thought Boeing was in the US.

China Airlines is only responsible for maintenance.

Wow, I heard this story from Misato, but I did not know it was a Chinese airlines.

abnormal is right. I'm sure the Boeing was made here, but look at this:

QuoteChina Airlines has a troubled safety record. One of its 747s crashed in 2002 as it flew from Taipei to Hong Kong, leading to 225 deaths. Accidents involving the airline killed about 450 people in the 1990s.

That an average of 10 customer deaths per year! Hey wanna be our customer? DEATH! :(

QuoteChina Airlines president Zhao Guo-shi told reporters at the airport. "I apologize for the trouble we have caused our passengers."

He is lucky he is not apologizing for killing 165 people! Good thing someone was watching out for that plane. What if it had caught fire in the air?!

QuoteTwo passengers — a 7-year-old girl and a man in his 50s — were hospitalized because they did not feel well, but they were uninjured

Unfortunately you are correct. But I don't think I would call it maintenance since it looks like none was done.

The Chinese Aviation Administration has some major explaining to do. I wonder how many officials will commit suicide on this one. :shake:

I didn't say they performed the scheduled maintenance...I only said they were responsible for it. A/C maintenance is a huge investment in time and money (not too mention a logistical nightmare)...since China places no value on human life (re: Chinese birth control policy) they probably can't justify the expense.

As for the suicides, wanna bet that the previously reported suicides were...um, assisted.

I stand corrected.  I should pay more attention.  seems they make everything else lately, I assumed they made the plane as well.   :hammer:

Let me rephrase.

"Seems like everything they are technically involved in lately......"

wow. 10 Deaths a year just seems unacceptable to me.

I was reading in the paper this morning about 2 chinese miners that were digging in an ILLIGAL coal mine, and it collapsed. They survived days by eating coal and drinking their own piss. They eventually dug their way back out aqfter the rescue attempt had been halted. Later on in the article, it said that an average of 13 PEOPLE DIE IN CHINESE MINES DAILY. Not really made in China, but it just goes to show the "high quality" of China.

Chinese chicken chokes after testing the water
Mon Sep 10, 2007 8:37AM IST

BEIJING (Reuters) - Think a bottle of mineral water might have poisoned you? Then test it on a chicken.

One Chinese family on the southern island province of Hainan had just that idea when one of their number started vomiting blood after drinking a bottle of water, a newspaper said.

They fed the luckless chicken the rest of the water to see what would happen, the Beijing News said, citing a report in a local paper. "The result was the chicken died within a minute," it said, showing a picture of a man holding a plastic bottle squatting over the crumpled body of the bird.

The province's authorities were investigating, it added.

Barely a day goes by without some new scandal over a made-in-China product, be it toys, toothpaste or fish, which has raised safety concerns in major export markets around the world.

Well, I don't know when you were in class...I presume it was recently (?). Recent growth in China has caused steel and concrete price increases and shortages.

Awaiting fallout from massive global drug bust
Yahoo! columnist Dan Wetzel calls it "Armageddon" for athletes.

It's a multinational drug bust stretching all the way to China that has already led to more than 100 arrests and could make many athletes nervous. The Washington Post's Amy Shipley says the operation could have "unusual and unnerving repercussions for the clientele of the labs."

Shipley describes the raid: "Federal agents raided more than four dozen underground drug labs and arrested 124 people in 27 states during an 18-month crackdown on Chinese steroids, human growth hormone and other performance-enhancing drugs that reached its culmination in the last four days, Drug Enforcement Administration officials said yesterday. ...
