First, let me say that this entire thread is regarding your lifestyle. If you see anything on this thread that is off the main topic, then please report it to me immediately. :attention:

The Reason for this thread: Two nights ago our local news station had a special report regarding things "Made in China" and it really caught my attention. So I decided to look some stuff up. They flashed a ton of figures and graphs on the screen, information that was far better than what my 5 mins of searching came up with, but here are some of what they spoke about:

Source: NY Times
"China manufactured every one of 24 kinds of toys recalled for safety reasons in United States this year.......parents and regulators are alarmed at fact that over all, number of products made in China that are being recalled in US by Consumer Product Safety Commission has doubled in last five years, driving total number of recalls in country to 467 last year, an annual record; this makes China responsible for 60 percent of all product recalls, compared with 36 percent in 2000; this may reflect fact that toys made in China now make up 70 to 80 percent of toys sold in country...........consumer advocates say staff of consumer product commission has been cut by more than 10 percent in Bush administration, leaving fewer regulators to monitor safety of growing flood of imports"

Source: Food and Drug Administration
"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today warned consumers to avoid using tubes of toothpaste labeled as made in China, and issued an import alert to prevent toothpaste containing the poisonous chemical diethylene glycol (DEG) from entering the United States..........DEG is used in antifreeze and as a solvent.........The products typically are sold at low-cost, "bargain" retail outlets..........DEG poisoning is an important public safety issue...........FDA inspectors found and tested toothpaste products from China located at a distribution center and a retail store............The product at the retail store was not labeled as containing DEG but was found to contain the substance............"

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
"Safety is not made in China yet
The bad news out of China is that too many of its exports to the United States are unsafe. If there's any good news, it's that watchdog agencies in the United States as well as the Chinese government are trying to reduce the risk to consumers from bad food and hazardous consumer products. The Food and Drug Administration took a significant step last week by halting imports of five kinds of seafood from China. Shipments of those products will be barred until Chinese manufactures demonstrate their seafood is free of banned drugs that can cause cancer. The drugs have been detected in shipments from China. Unfortunately, is not just food that's a problem. China also sends hazards to the United States in the form of tires, toys and toothpaste. It's clear China is doing too little to protect consumers. The government in China has looked the other way as businesses there cut corners, trampled the environment and ignored safety issues. ........ The pattern among Chinese companies — and the government there — usually has been to insist there's nothing wrong with the mountains of good shipped to the United States. So it's encouraging that China seems to have finally gotten serious about food safety by closing 180 food processing plants. The move is past due, but the extent of the problems uncovered is scary. According to published reports, Chinese authorities found food that had been doctored with formaldehye, dyes, wax and industrial chemicals, or processed with hydrochloric acid. Given those practices, our trading partner should start stamping its exports with "Buyer beware" as well as "Made in China.""

Source: San Francisco Chronicle
"Made in China, badly.
WHAT DO tires, toothpaste and toy trains have in common? They're part of a wave of Chinese-made products yanked from the U.S. market as lethal or unhealthy. The "Made in China" export label once meant inexpensive prices. Now it's a stand-in for a triple-whammy no country wants: unsafe manufacturing, weak inspections and consumer worries..........Tainted toothpaste was linked to approximately 100 deaths in Panama before it was identified and taken off shelves here. Contaminated pet food led to animal deaths in the United States before the source was found............For example, 60 percent of product recalls this year involved Chinese-made items. At the same time, the United States gets 80 percent of its ascorbic acid, the source of vitamin C and preservatives used in food, from China..............On China's end, there is both denial and acceptance. Authorities there see the problems as isolated and say importing nations have little to fear. But Beijing is also showcasing a crackdown that has closed 180 food plants."

Source: USA TODAY
"Tires made in China recalled
The government has ordered a small New Jersey tire importer to recall 450,000 Chinese-made light-truck tires because they might come apart and cause fatal crashes, even though the importer says the costs of a recall would bankrupt it...........In February 2006, Cooper Tire & Rubber recalled 288,000 passenger-car tires from the Chinese maker because they contained "unauthorized material" in the sidewalls....."There is no problem with the quality of our tires," Xu said. "We have been exporting our tires ... to the USA for over 10 years."........."

There are a bunch of articles like this, but what gets me is that the Bush admin has set lower quality control on imports, which leads me to believe even more so that secret societies really are in control of the world.....

If you didn't want to ban Chinese stuff before, then you might think differently about it now, especially if loved ones are effected.

I've been hearing all the warnings lately too...and stuff the US is just now starting to refuse. I was all for it before but now am having serious issues (with the whole trade idea). I had some imported chinese rabbits a while back and now im hoping i didnt get mercury poisoning!

It made me angry too to hear about the toothpaste incident (containing  diethylene glycol ). What your post doesnt say is that THAT toothpaste was distributed to government institutions = mental institutions and juvenile facitilities.  :shakehead:

Holy crap, I did not know that.

I know that we all use at least something made in China, it's just sad to see things like having chemicals in a product that isn't even listed on the package contents. It makes you wonder how many other things -- even those made in the US -- are this same way! :nerv: :scared:

Let's not also forget dog food ingredients.

The harsh reality is it is next to impossible to avoid products made in China. I have no issues with some of the products I own that are made in China, but I do believe the Chinese have serious ethics issues when it comes to trademark, environmental and public safety.

BigMike

I would like to learn more about their environment. I've heard that they just dump chemicals into the ocean or whatnot, and they don't pay for environment testing or taxes for waste removal. That is complete garbage...

I hear tell you get so many credits for pollutants.  Exceed the amount of pollutants you're allowed and get fined, but since china buys credits from other less industrious countries they're free to pollute WAAAAAAAY worse than us.  Wanna stop global warming?  (if you believe in that crap)  Halt all industry in china.

china buys up alot of "carbon credits", so they can pollute more without raising concerns from environmental agencies. global warming concept is a scare scam based on the belief that humans alone can make the earth change temperature/weather. pure idiot bs where these "scientists" refuse to see the facts. the earth never went through temperature/atmosphere changes before humans came along :shakehead: . idiots, actual science proves that the earth goes through warming/cooling periods.

those chinese cars would be a nightmare in a wreck with a fullsize truck/suv.

I have a hard time finding an American flag that is not made in China or another country. When I do it is expensive but I still buy it anyway because our flags should be made by Americans. We as a people are cheap that is why every thing is made in other contries. Just my :twocents:

That funny...China isn't buying credits...they are creating them.  Dumb schemes for "pollution reduction" in developing nations like China and India are used to create certain numbers of credits determined by the type of polution and method of reduction.  These are then sold to western countries who have out poluted their credit allotment.  Thing is, these schemes in China, etc, are really not certified, etc, so all it amounts to is a rediculous way for these developing countries to suck money from the west.  It is socialistic wealth redistribution at its finest.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I'll buy anything from an American store no-matter where the product is made. As long as it is a quality product.... :usa:
I will not order from any store outside of the country.

The secret society comment peaked my interest. I have been studying and researching extensively on the subject. It seems all roads point to the direct influence they have on such issues.

Hopefully people will start reading again. The info is out there. Scarry stuff!

Something you might not also be aware of.Just because it says made in the USA doesn't mean it was completely manufactured in the USA.

I work in a wire plant. We mainly produce coax products. The biggest product being RG 6/U aluminum braided copper coated steel. All CCS (copper coated steel) conductor we use is imported from China,All the aluminum braid we use comes from China. We're even importing wire that has already been braided, and just putting the final jacket on it.And it all goes in a box or on a reel that is stamped made in the USA.
