Not really, I am just dealing with it for a while until I can get some cash.  Something else though, when I floor it, it will bog down until it gets to about 3500 rpm's, then it will throw me back in the seat.  Very confusing.  It is timed correctly now but I still think the AFM is poop.  I also think it is in the exhaust.  It had a flow master on it originally but it gave me a headache on road trips.  Told the guy to replace it with a quieter muffler but the same size pipe (2 1/4).  I looked under it the other day and saw that he not only replaced it with a factory muffler, but it is also the factory diameter of pipe.  The stupid ass used extra pipe to make the small ends fit the 2 1/4.  He also used a crappy welder and the welds on it look like dirt dobbers...and it leaks.  Poopie, I am also saving up for another flowmaster...but the hushpower or something like it.

The only thing I can say right now is that it is doing better on start up.  For really no reason at all, it starts and runs fine in the morning (happened before I fixed the timing).  It still has the bog right when I get on it and doesn't go away until 3-3500.  I am loseing my mind trying to figure everything out.  I should be able to buy a new AFM within' a week so I will post up and let everyone know how it goes with that.

yes minisimp...that is what it does...but not all the time.  Sometimes I can't even start it.  I tried starting it a few days ago (from sitting overnight) and it wouldn't even start.  When I finally started it black smoke (which I think was fuel) spit out the exhaust.  I could also smell fuel for the times I was trying to start it.  It seemed to have been flooded but it is an EFI...can it do that?  So...sometimes it does what the link does, but sometimes it starts fine.  But the "bogging" happens all the time (floor it and it doesn't have power until about 3,500, but if I am light on the gas when the truck is moving, it runs fine...the only difference is it does that at first start up but also when the engine is trying to move the truck...but also, after it has run for a while...sometime...it won't bog at idle but will when I floor it).  I have a Fireball coil and it is now starting to make a tapping noise (I am sure it is the coil making the noise).  Think the coil is causing problems?  At idle (when the truck is warmed up) it runs lean, but the second I hit the gas it turns to COMPLETE rich (fuel/air gauge).  You have any help for me?    you know how I can put on a movie on the forum...of idle and also when I floor it from inside the truck on the road??????????????????????

Mine was the fuel pump.
It was only putting out 18psi instead of 33psi.
Not sure if you checked that yet, but it is a possibility.

no, haven't checked it yet...you know where that can be checked from?  I have a coupler on the line that is near the fuel filter...think I could unscrew that and take a guage to it?

Honestly, no idea, i wasn't the one who checked mine, it can't be hard though, took the guy about 10 seconds.

Check it before the filter first, if it is above 30, then check it after the filter.

Thanks man, I should be able to do that tomorrow...getting pissed with the freakin thing.  If it is above 30 before the filter and below 30 after...could that still be the pump?  I just replaced my filter about a month ago.

30 before the filter: Pump is good
30 after the filter: Pump and filter are good
If that is the case, problem is somewhere after that.

well, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the pressure is low.  Fuel pump is cheaper than a new AFM.

replaced the pump and it was good to go...I can't remember the pressure the old one was at though...also had to replace a blown headgasket in October.  I sold the truck over thanksgiving...at least the next guy doesn't have to worry about too many problems, I think I fixed everything that could have gone wrong with it.

Yup...got a 2002 tacoma (TRD, x-cab, 5-speed with a snorkel, ARB, and OME lift, 90K miles) plus $2,500 for the 89.

By the way 79, I didn't pick it up (completely forgot), but Broken Wrench (ttora) has a grill off an 81 4x that he will give you.  PM me if you want it and I can pick it up next time I am in Houston and ship it if you pay for just shipping (irregular package).

So the pump was the problem? It must not of had enough flow at high rpms. I am glad to hear you got it fixed and sold.
