New Toyota owner here...
« on: Jun 24, 2007, 10:12:59 PM »
Hi all,
I have asked a couple questions around these parts but never properly introduced myself. A while back I helped a friend with her Toyota pickup and got to drive it around a bit and decided I had to have one. A month or two ago I picked up a 1992 4cyl 5spd pickup 4 wheel drive of course. I will start a buildup thread once I get everything rolling. I sold my 1994 RX-7 to fund this next little project. ( I had other logical reasons for selling it as well.)

I also have a 1981 CJ-7 which has a little left to be done to it, but overall is pretty much done and quite enjoyable on the trails. I couldn't be happier with it. I am sure I will get some crap for having both a Jeep and a Toyota but I am willing to take it..

My current plans for the Toyota are:

SAS swap (with the 4" springs front and rear) (I have a 81 solid axle already)
Duel case (have the case and adapter already)
5.29's
Detroit rear, and either Detroit front, or lock-right.. maybe an aussie, not sure yet.
Either 27 or 30 longs, else the D44 ujoint kit (birfield elminator kit.)
I guess at some point I should upgrade the rear axle, and then maybe an exo when funds allow..

Above is subject to change at any point in time.

In any case, I should be saving money for a house but I think I will end up blowing all that money for the Toyota first haha then ill work on a place to store it. A couple times a year family and friends wheel quite a bit. Rubicon, Fordyce and a bunch of other smaller ones depending on where we're at. Its always a good time, never a dull moment haha.

And so it begins.... ;)

welcome to the site from the bay as well....

as for longs, get the 30 spliners.... dont waste your time with a birf eliminator kit, they are marginally as strong as the stock toyota birf, with longs, the yota axle is way stronger than a d44

My thing about the 30 spline stuff is... What else needs to be changed to accept it, carrier for the locker? Also what do I do about spare parts? I need to buy another axle as spare? or can the stockers be swapped incase of a snap on the trail?

Nothing else, just inners and birfs.  You shouldn't need long spares.  unless you wheel with Hyena :gap:

I thought stock spline was 27? Don't you have to change something out to accept 30 splines? Maybe I just have no idea what I am talking about here... ;)

the diff is 30 spline.  the inner shaft necks down to 27 where it goes into the stock birf.  So, a full set of 30s (inners/outers) is all you need.

Ahh ok, I will more then likely go that route then... I guess I just need to decide now if I should just spend the extra cash and go detroit front and rear, or cheap out and get a lock right/aussie front... I am pretty close to submitting the order haha...

Thanks everyone for the welcome and help/recommendations...

Ahh well when I used to have free time and wanted to sit infront of my computer for lengths of time I would play a little World of Warcraft as a night elf...;) Now I use the very little time I have to tinker with one of the two rigs...

As I use a computer most of the day at work its harder and harder to sit in front of a computer when I go home sometimes..

Nice 92. My girlfriend has a 92 just like that but white and we both wish it was the 22RE :(

Looks like a good project. Keep us posted with what you do to her

Thank you everyone for the welcome.

An update, I made a new thread specific to the build up of the truck. I am trying to take lots of pictures along the way. Rather then post in both places, id say just visit the other one for the project build up.
