Ignition help...22r
« on: Jun 17, 2007, 03:00:30 PM »
my truck has no factory harness... so i am wondering how to set up my ignition.

i have an aftermarket streetrod style harness that i am installing. i am wondering what my options are for getting the coil and dizzy working again. i have a lot of the stock parts as far as coil and all just no factory wires.
i am trying not to spend the money for a davis ignition yet if i dont have too. any help would be great. or even if you could show pics or diagrams of your wiring if you have done this mod

ok after looking that over, i am confused alittle.

it seems you need to have the factory wiring to follow. that is a more of a fix for when something dies right?

Just be sure to put a cheap computer-processor heatsink and fan on the backside of the ignition module, or it'll overheat and burn out. Computer fans are 12VDC...just connect it to the wire you run to Terminal B so it only runs when your ignition is on. The other wire from the fan goes to ground.

You can see in the Pirate4x4 picture that the guy used a piece of aluminum C-channel and a computer fan, that seems to work for him.

I dunno what you're gonna use this Toyota for, daily driver or off-road, but instead of an on-off toggle switch you could used a keyed electrical switch.

If you wanna get really James Bond, go to Radio shack, get a digital keypad for a wired security system. They have two kinds...one that sends data and one that closes a relay. Get the relay one...it's a pretty small relay, though, so use it to close a bigger relay that gives power to terminal B, then no one can start your truck unless they know the 4-digit security code.
