what type of ignitions setup do most run? Are you all just running stock, or upgrading to a MSD setup?  I want to get my little 22r running at as good as I can, and I know with out a good spark the fuel cant burn...So what are the options

jacobs has a nice and simple setup for yotas. i saw it at www.truckperformance.com

Jacobs makes a very good setup indeed.  I know of people running msd setups and they are all happy with them, but if & when I upgrade it'll be jacobs.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Skinny_Pedal

ok i made a mistake. truckperformance carries msd. performace accesories carried that jacobs unit

Performance wants way too much as a rule for yota stuff.  Your better off buying from summit.

The factory setup I feel is the most reliable.

I have seen all other units fail sooner or later.

One of my customers installed a MSD setup and it seemed to make a noticeable change. It lasted about one year and than left him stranded. He mounted it on the drivers fenderwell and I felt it overheated. After sending it in for warrenty, it is now mounted on the passerners side near the wiper motor and it has worked perfect ever since.

so it was the header heat that did it. the unit it self didn't malfunction?

I do not care for the Jacobs units.
I have seen many of them take a dump wheeling in the Sierra heat in California.

Three years ago on the Sierra Trek, I saw 3 trucks that lost their Jacobs units. Have not spoke kindly about them since then.

I am still running the same factory coil and igniter on my 1980 crawler truck.
I have upgraded to Nology ignition wires with the ground straps and run single ground Boush platimun plugs.
3 years ago, Big Mike got me a Nology super coil for Fathers day--2 years ago it let me down in the rain in Arizona at the Glitter Glutch Run. Thank goodness I had my factory coil with me.

With all the fancy ciructs and boasting about how good they are, I just feel that it must be the engine compartment heat that makes them go south.
I have noticed that most units have a large aluminun heatsink to help get rid of the heat.

Now if only they came with a 10 foot wiring harness.

Thanks for the input everyone .  After what marlin said about them taking a dump I may just stick to stock...or I can just carry my stock coil with me on the trail
