toyota newbie
« on: Jun 12, 2007, 09:43:01 PM »
So I am a convert from a fullsize bronco down to a little ol yota. Actually I am just gathering parts at the moment while in search for the perfect builder rig. I have plans for a mid 80s extended cab. I already have alxes for it and Im sure I will be spending too much money with marlin. In the time being I am researching and buying what I can before getting the truck. I have answered most of my questions already just by reading all the posts out there between pirate and other toyota sites and have most of the basics covered. Im sure they will change as I build.

happy wheeling

backwards? what by gathering parts first?

I have been in the market for a truck for about a month. I just recently sold my bronco so now I have cash for the the project but no truck. turns out it seems extra cabs of that era are harder to  come by. I have come across solid axles and the extra t-case I need so at the very least I can get on rebuilding and locking those

yeah I kinda fell into them, pulled some emergency cash to pick them up. glad a did since they are hard to find here in az for  a decent price. I am digging this board tho, seems to be one of the better ones out there.  thanks for the warm welcome. I will keep everyone posted on the build once I get a rig to work on

Welcome from california! You'll thank yourself for making the switch to a toyota. This is a great board, and though I also roam around pirate, this is the place to ask questions because the people are SOO much nicer.

Glad to have you come from the dark side, these little trucks wont let you down in any way.  May not have the power of that full size but that's what the low gears are for.

Nice  How much did you pick that thing up for?

I paid 1700. he was asking 2300but was not worth that IMO, not for what I am going to do. plus the bumpers and bed are going away so as long as the cab is fairly straight. this thing was also unmolested so thats a biggie. For arizona its been hard to find a decent truck. its eitehr way overpriced or a complete pile. I would say this is the best deal in the world but it works.

It does have some issues here an there. the biggest right now is a coolant leak on the back side of the motor. also has a hard start when cold. I am thinking fuel pump? I used those issues to knock down the price.

Welcome to  :turtle:   The truck looks like a good start.  Where I live most extra cab 4cyl trucks are pretty rare to find in a good condition like that.  Most are pretty beat up for alot of $, and you can find the v6 extra cab really cheap!  I can't figure out why?!   :rofl2:

It was the same way with me.  As soon as I bought this truck of mine, then you see them all over the place, and cheaper than they were before you bought!  I quite cruising CraigsList for this reason.  It's like all of a sudden they are cheaper and more available!  But none of them had the R151f tranny though!
