adding oil to oforward shift range box
« on: Jun 04, 2007, 11:39:06 AM »
given that the range box will leak oil when sitting horizontally, and that there is no way to access the plate once the dual cases are mounted...

how do yoou add oil to a forward shift rangebox without dropping t he cases, or cutting an access hole in the cab? Can you overfill the rear top shift and rely upon the slinger to move the excess into the front box? ideas??

When you fill the rear case it bleeds into the front case. :headscratch:

ok smartass... :gap:I know there are oil journals which allow movemennt and sharing of fluids between the cases...so how much is too much? or, what is the capacity of the rangebox alone, as that will give me the magic number in qts.

if you have dual cases  i  suggest  pulling the shifter  from the front case ,  if  they are empty  and  dump 1 qt  in there  then fill the rear  case  via the fill plug

if  you dont have duals  then  just fill from the fill plug,  it will run thru  almost as fast as you fill it

Lol.  Yea, and it bleeds though very very slowly. (humm..  opposite of coyote's experience...) Let me find the thread..  It's a sticky one.

About .8 for front case.  2.5 for both cases.

i meant  if  he only has  ONE CASE,  then  it  fills  to the  reduction box  quick,  if  he has duals  then yea  its  slow,  thats why i suggested  removing the  shifter  from the front  case  and  fdumping a qt  in  there  if he has duals

ok, got it, thanks guys, I do have the duals already installed, with the rear case filled post-install...I just didn't want to risk frying either box for a lack of lube. :0)

OH  :slap:  DUH  i had a brain fart,  yea  just  fill your  rear case,  and maybe  just ease  the trucks around slow  with the cases in hi,  so they are straight thru,  the rear case  will drop a qt  or more,  to be safe  fill the rear  then  let it sit over night
