Well... i must say... i shoulda started this thread long ago... But O WELL!!!
I have had a 1981 toy long bed since New Years. I took it out and broke it this first weekend out (some of u have heard that story).

Since then i have swapped the 22-R out for a 22-RE out of a 1983 Celice GT. That seems to be working pretty good. I drove the truck today for the first time in almost 5 months. I have a few more little details to finish like putting the dashboard back in, hide/tuck the wires away, power steering fluid back in the resevoir, .... the list the keeps goin..

I am in need of 1 part though.... Turns out the Mass AirFlow Sensor is not workin. It worked yesterday when i started the truck.. but today was a totally different story. If anyone has one, i really need it. I will be taking the truck out of class on monday.... hopefully.

Anyway.... i will have a couple pics up soon. I need to find out which CD i have them on and get em uploaded.

He is a crane operator, mechanic, truck driver.... Jack of All Trades. Master of Most. If we can fix the charging system, everyting else worx well enuff to take it out wheelin. HEHEHE!!

so what is actually wrong with the charging system? ive got an extra voltage reglator and an alternator that im not using, also i have wiring to make a new wire, and probably enough to rig a new harness too.....

let me know....

OK. Im not sure. I have a nasty short somewhere. I ran a wire (red power wire for stereo amps...8gauge ..about the size of my pinky finger) from the positive on battery to the back of the alt. It started smoking as soon as the second end came into contact with the alt. So... i have no clue.

that doesnt sound quite right.... im currently working on my wiring, and the connect from the battery to the alternator is 8 guage, well thats what im running, the stock wire appears to be 8 or 10 guage

ive got the regulator and the alternator if needed..... wonder where your short could be, there really isnt that much in the system....

I think that the short is in either the fuse link thats in the underdash fuse box or its a wire that i have wired to ground or not wired at all... I have an idea which wire it is.

tehre is a funky wire on the alternaor that looks like its suppsoed to be a ground, but it isnt.... it comes up to the fenderwell with the harness and its the power wire

Yea.. thats the wire that im thinkin mite be it. I have 2 good size wires that both come up to the fenderwell... i think that (both being power) 1 is a harness fuselink and 1 is a charging wire??

I got the chargin system fixed. It turned out the the alt was shorting out internally. Now i just got fine tune a few things.
