Dunno the validity of this post or not, but if it's real it'd sure be embarassing to the australian government, and hopefully an eye opener for ours!

Australian Gun Law Update

Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts...
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced
by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by
our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent ;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.
(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home .

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!
BE ONE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON'T LET THIS HAPPEN IN THE U.S.A The program cost $780 per gun and look what it accomplished.
RIP KYOTA

Many have tried this tactic, but it's all too true that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  For every one of us there are 100 yelling, screaming hippies and emotional ignoramouses who'll jump up and down crying and yelling until they get their way.  It's almost like they hold meetings and tell each other how to act, that or they just watch how kids get what they want and mimick their tactics.

I've long said crime would be greatly reduced if we had real punishments.  If criminals knew that either A: every home owner had a gun and was well versed in how to use it properly, or B: if they commited a violent crime they would be put to death within the month, crime would be at an all time low and we'd have a much safer and more respectful society.

I posted this wondering how long it'd take for someone to knock it down :gap:

As far as I knew they've not been able to have pistols or semi autos for some time, but did remember hearing recently that they were also taking away pump shotguns.  Just another reason (along with those deadly spiders that crawl in your shoes at night :shudder: ) I'll never live there.

Of course I support the right to keep and bear arms, and I wish I could have snoped that to be a TRUE but as with anything figures like that, they are always skewed and not 100% accurate.

you outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns. i believe that so many people having guns in this country is one reason that other are reluctant to come over and start a war in our country

The one point that is often missed in "gun control" debates is that guns don't kill people, people kill people. If guns had never been invented, we would still have people violently ending others lives, and it would probably be just as frequent as it is now. Guns are an easy target (no pun intended). They'd be trying to outlaw sticks if it weren't for guns.

An unsupported/verified statistic that I came across suggested that more people die on our roads every year than are killed by gunfire. Will the liberals try to take away our vehicles next? (go look at the global warming thread, and maybe there is a link. Hmmmmmm makes someone wonder....)
