Someone else would have to fund it. Most of my money goes into the shop.

do you ever pt tilt beds to make it easier to work on the suspension? i know a guy with a bagged mazda b2000 and has a tilt bed and it makes it really nice to get to the bags and compressors.

Finished bell crank pictures. Time to start building mounts for these and the coil overs.

Bell crank set up in place. It will not stay in single shear.

Bell crank on the other side, and some shots of the double plated bolt hole on the tab that will capture the bell crank in double shear.

Here is the basis of the mount without the bell crank on it. A lot more will happen in this area soon.

See the little gold zinc deal on the trailing arm in the bottom of this picture?

That is the lower mount for a stock shock on a 944. That is what the side of the bell crank with a rod end in it will attach to. The opposite side will be a coilover that will be mounted in a horizontal position.

The point of the bell crank is mostly because he wants to be able to say it has one. Second is that he bought some used Bilstein coilovers on eBay for like $350 shipped or something, for all 4. So he wants to use those, but they get 4 inches of travel and he wants 6 inches of travel. So the bell crank is set up at a 1.5:1 ratio, but 'everything needs to be adjustable' so it's also got a 1.25:1 ratio built in.

The coilovers have been a total PITA too. They didn't come with any hardware to install them, so I started measuring them to figure out what I need. The bolt hole measured out to .586" which is much too large to be 9/16" and much to small for 5/8" so I figure it's 15mm the only thing in between those I can think of. Apparently not because that measures out to 14.9mm and I can't find any 15MM bolts that measure out that small, they are all a bit over sized. His solutions to the issue where all a bit ghetto for me, like wrapping the bolts in metal tape to make up the difference. So what I ended up doing is machining some one off misalignment spacers for them (4 pictures up from the bottom of my last post you can see one) that go from .586" to a .500" hole so I can use a standard size bolt. I have made 8 of them so far, and I am dreading making another 4 for the front. I am thankful that I only need to make them for the lower mount on the front, and the upper mount will be a more simple machined piece.

If that doesn't make sense, I should be a bit further along tomorrow or Monday with a shock mounted and it should make sense then.

Oh so you want the rear done? That's a lot easier than doing the front suspension. Haha.

Rear bell crank setup is just about done. I need to cap off the 2x3 and patch the floor back in around the mount. I also need Stephen to figure out his ride height so I can build the tie rods.

2002 Dodge 2500 Cummins

boggerunner

will the shock part of the coilover work in a horizantal setup?

Twisted Minis

Yes. From what I understand all Bilsteins are capable of working in this position. However since I did not purchase these I called them to run the PN off of them and ask if they will work this way. They said I could do anything I want with them except swap the direction of rebound for compression, and vice verse.

Also here is the start of an IRS knuckle. I machined all the parts on my lathe, and I welded the back side today, will finish the other side tomorrow morning, and try to get some mounting tabs on it over the weekend.

Did you miss the mid engine part?

It's got a 911 Porsche 3.2L 6 cylinder under the back seat, with a modified 911 bell housing to mate up to a 944 torque tube and trans axle, and has 944 IRS.

Ya you can't see the motor very well in that shot.
2002 Dodge 2500 Cummins

Here are some custom bolts I made to put coilovers on a narrowed beam. The bearing on the coilovers the owner got have an oddball bearing, that measures .588". So instead of running a bolt with a spacer on it, I figured I would make something a little stronger that looks a little cleaner. The bolt itself is 4130 chromoly, all corners lightly radiused to prevent any stress risers, and the suspension load is transferred into the chromoly piece. The other side is just an aluminum spacer that allows for some misalignment (same as on the chromoly side, cut at 30 degrees .130" in depth), that uses a counter sunk bolt to keep the spacer in place and provide a flush clean look.

I'm getting a lot more involved with the machine work lately, and I really like it.
