So here it is, what i think of the shcool that people want to go to.

If you are book-smart then it a good school.  90% of the school is book work and 5% shop.  The classes were over filled with not enough instructors.  you would spend about half your time waiting to get something signed off so you could move on.

But not everything i have to say is bad.  i did learn  a lot while i was out there, and i had a good time. just the way i was told how the school is ran and what i went trough was far off.

thats a start.

I went for a short time, I coun't get a job in town (they said that their were lots of Jobs) and I got stuck going to class at night.  The apartments I lived in were very noisy during the day so it made sleeping very difficult.  The only positive thing about my experience at WyoTech was that is where I got my first toyota (1987 toyota 4Runner, hence toyo487)  I should have gone to UTI it is a much better school.  (my brother in law went and loved it, the campus seemed much better also.)

Sounds like you described my shcool.  almost the same sort of deal,  started out well and then after a couple of semesters you could see the schools priority change toward just money.   took almost 2 years to get a job in the industry.

Cheesemaker

A buddy went to wyotech and the instructors couldn't rebuild a th400 to save their lives!  They would rebuild it and install it and it wouldn't work.  This happened like 4 times in a row.  He called me up and asked me to ship him a th400 our local mechanic/buddy rebuilt and shipped it to him!  He got it installed and backed into the shop and lit the 38" tires up, and told the instructor that he's got alot to learn still!

the big kick in the :moon: is that they did not help me get a job like they said that they would.  i went to plenty of shops and they said that they want to see what i can do and not what a pice of paper says.

I had an R.O.C. class my junior & senior years of high school. I had the basics when I got there. Plus I was wrenching with my dad long before that. I got a scholarship so I didn't have to pay anything  :woohoo:

Hey TacoStewie, you still looking for a job?

II will say this we had great luck hiring techs out of our local community college. I'm of the consensus that local community colleges offer the best bang for the buck in terms of training.

Rebuilding t-cases, was that facility in a residential area in the owners garage or basement just off 880?

I went to the sacto Wyotech and the only instructors that knew anything left after 1-3 months. If you stay in the sacto or bay area go to ARC (american river college) or Skyline's toyota tech program. And save yourself about 15 grand. Most of the time i was at wyotech their ish didn't work and the shop was empty, it wasn't til after i was done that they started getting their ish fixed, and even now i hear ish hasm't changed. I knew more about working on auto's before i went there than when i left. :hammerhead:

when i got out people around the bay and sacto were like Wyotech who? :dunno: and i became a welder at my first job outta Wyotech and i took the ASM class  :headscratch:

For me personaly that ish wasn't worth the 19grand debt i have to pay  and i think you could learn more from a chiltons manuel.
