mine started out as a head gasket. it was leaking so much water into the cylinders and mixing in with the fuel thus forth causing a miss fire in one cylinder. ran like crap. i think when it died i killed the turbo because it wasn't boosting like it usually would.

Another reason I'm getting rid of the turbo setup and going to 22re!  The way I look at it is this, a rebuilt motor with a cam, a good flowing head, header, and a 2.25" exhaust, will give you the same or more horsepower as a good running 22rte with factory turbo.  It will cost more to have a 22rte rebuilt than a 22re.  And the added cost of the turbo (ct20) being rebuilt, or trying to find and modify a good working ct26 (from a supra/celica?)  Most turbo rebuilds will cost ya some serious dough, just for a little component!  You can get aftermarket turbo's to replace the stock one, but how much do ya want to spend?  This is probably the reason the last owners decided to sell the truck!  Do your research and decide what your gonna do!  I've been told that the turbo stuff will swap over for the 22re, just need a ecm that is for a 22re.  And maybe different injectors!  I'm going to be finding out real soon!  As soon as I get my butt in gear and order the motor!

I'd check all the airflow connections, check your timing, fuel pressure, and anything else you can look at.  Oh! just thought of this, the fuel filter!  It might be plugged up!  It's easy to replace, but can be trying if you got large hands!  It requires a 12mm socket and a 17 mm wrench to replace!

I don't mean to scare you away from a turbo setup.  Mine is not running and I want to start fresh, and get the best bang for my buck!  Low budget build ya know!

I loved my Turbo, never had the issue you're talking about, but the oem is crap and you may want to look into something like a Supra turbo. Check and make sure someone didn't disconnect the vaccum line to the wastegate. Some people do that thinking it will produce more power, it doesn't but it sure will screw things up.

It's got to be a return line!  Hey, I remember the pics of your truck in your other post, and I remember a few vacuum lines missing off the tpi!  Maybe that could be some places to look at also!

I am not sure which line controls the waste gate, but if it is not connected, then you might be overboosting. Does the check engine light come on for about 10 seconds and then turn back off?

As your looking at the pic, the one on the left, goes to the fuel purge canister, and the Right one, goes to a little assembly of steel vacuum lines, that are usually mounted to the side of your valve cover. looks like yours is gone.

I am not sure how old this pic is, but you have nothing connected to your TPS. I see an open plug there.

He's also missing all the egr stuff, and where does that taped hard line go, that is mounted right in front of your cold start injector?

ok I guess i'll use my ricer knowledge for some good use now. :) The wastegate can be ran off any vacume source. I would do a couple of things.
Is the wastegate hooked up to a vacume source? are there any kinks in the line?
Do you have any leaks/cracks in the DP or intake?
hows your idle? rough/smooth?
Are you gaining any boost at all? If so is the compressor making a chatter noise..? <- this is a long shot
Truely any question on your setup can be answered here www.Homemadeturbo.com , i use to be a member back when i had my 4G63t powered EG hatch. They'll answere anything you can't find by running a search, Almost every problem involving a turbo has been discussed or resolved. Good luck, oh and Please no jokes. and too anyone thats had real boost under their toes, Its addictive!
For those who wanted to see. :)
