Bazzi´s garage
« on: Apr 10, 2007, 04:57:31 PM »
I am planning to post some picks here off what I am doing in the garage. some of you have seen my Hi runner buildup and this is kinda  project hi runner/landcruiser continuing......

OK first up. The hirunner has an 2l diesel engine. 2,4 equipped with an turbo and a intercooler. I am feeling the need of more power. and since they changed the diesel law, here in Iceland making diesel same price as petrol. So I don´t care if the new engine is diesel  or benzine.

My first choice would be a Toyota engine, but I am not willing to spend a lot of money in it so my only choice would be an 3.0 V6. unless you guys have a Tacoma engine lying around over there that I can buy for a reasonable price.
My second choice is a 4.3 Chevy vortex. But we don´t have a lot of those lying around here either.  I have an adapter plate for the Toyota trans to the Chevy.
Thats makes the 350 an option also but. I don´t want to change to diffs.

to sum things up. I need a bigger engine. The 3.0 v6 is somehow not a desirable option for me,  I like the 4.3 better but don´t wanna brake my gears. Am I missing some options ??? what would you guys do.

with regards Bassi

Can you elaborate on this?  Was diesel cheaper than gas before?  Seems like I remember hearing that gas is $5-7 there, and it would suck if diesel is now as expensive.

Don´t get me wrong... I loooove diesel power... But before the diesel was like 1/2 the price of gas. but now it´s the same. (we paid a litle extra tax per truck but if you drove more than 15000 km p/year you where in a huge plus.  bUT THOSE WHERE  the old days.
diesel is around 116 kr p/liter = 1.60 $

But anyway.

would you guys rather go for the 4.3 than the 3.0 4runner.???

I don´t know why I don´t like the 3.0 I have never ovned a v6 toyota so I basicly have no clue.

Tell me honestly why you would rather go for the 4.3 than 3.0 besides the fact that it´s bigger.

How about swapping to a 3.4 toy v6? If I rember what I have read you can bolt the 3.4 in front of the 3.o tranny and just change the wiring harness and exhaust. I'm shure there is somthing else but I can't rember. :headscratch:

because you don't have to worry about headgaskets?...ok what do I win

FYI, the problem with the headgaskets was the composition they were made out of, and since toyota fixed the problems, those engines last quite a while   Unfortunately, it took me 3 tries to figure this out :smack:  Another downside though, is they are a heavy motor, and for a 6cyl, pretty dang gutless. Gearing is certainly your friend with these motors.

I'd say go 4.3 if you can't find a 3.4, but I'd MUCH rather have the toyota engine and not hafta worry about the firewall clearance issues and all.

ok cool I am on the right way then.... .   I belive the only way to get to the clutch is to remove the complete engine and trans....

I haven´t even figured out where exactly the clutch is. but I am sure I figure it out, before I wreck it.
