It might have been covered, but did it pass smog with the new tank? Do you think it was worth it? Run into any other problems? I never liked the placement of the stock tank and it looks like the swap isn't too hard.
It hasn't passed smog but not because of the tank, but because of my numbers. I pass visual

Do you plan on putting the gauge cluster from the 3.4 in yours or wiring to custom gauges or making it talk to your current cluster?

I have the cluster from the tacoma, as well as the column which after working on the wiring for my friends 3.4, getting the 3.4 column eliminates a lot of wiring headaches

because of your numbers? what numbers?
In CA we have to pass a sniffer test, my numbers are too high in 2 areas and still trying to figure out why

Thanks, I try to post a lot of pictures, they describe things much better than I can. Hopefully this next season you'll see it on the trail

Here's one of my earlier posts:
As far as getting it running, I pulled the old fuel pump from the sender and just extended and draw tube down in it's place within the sending unit. I also flipped the float over in the other direction so that the fuel gauge would read in the correct direction. Any other information you're looking for?

Also here's the pirate thread, I found which tank to get from reading this: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=484247&highlight=ford+gas+tank

This is what I needed.  I called a junk yard looking for a tank and they asked if I wanted a front or rear tank, and I had no idea.  Thanks for the help I am hoping to get a tank soon and get it all figured out.

By CA law, the Test-Only Smog station can only perform tests.  They cannot even recommend a specific shop to perform repairs.

BTW, I have been helping a little bit with the issues on this truck.  It has a lean condition, and so far we've found the EGR Tube gasket leaking and a faulty Vacuum Advance on the distributor.

i would take it to a shop that isnt test only have them test it and then get their recommendation on what to do it, my buddy did that for me and i had no problems passing after that

Looking for some advice..

Smog is really kicking me around and I'm tired of the headache. I am going to try to fix one more issue on my carb and see if anything changes. If nothing changes i'm tempted to just pull the entire motor and sell it off to pay for parts for my swap. The motor is great and has been running better than ever as far as power but I'm just having a lot of trouble getting it to pass and I don't know if it's worth the time and money when i'm just going to swap it out anyway. What do you guys think?

The swap is on hold, I haven't been able to source any parts that I need for it and I don't have enough to buy a package deal from any dismantlers  right now. I either need a smoking deal with someone parting out or 1700 to get everything else i need including trans in a package deal.

That being said have been kept busy with other things aside from work. Made some gifts in december:

a sword for my brother out of an old leaf spring from my stock toy front pack I had laying around (sorry for the sideways pics)

he's a big fan of Skyrim so I engraved some stuff into the paint

finished up an old art project for my mom

and whipped up another leaf spring sword...this one I kept

heated and flattened

ground & sharpened

and decided to blue this one

as far as this month goes I built a couple more tables, more shallow to fit up against the wall and will be building metal storage into them later

picked up some more work, made a winch mount for this FJ40, 1.75 tubing and 1/4" plate, 8 bolts into frame & bumper

all finished, painted, and mounted

next it will get removable sliders

Small update regarding that spare carrier I built:

The owner was able to get it to unlatch while out on the trail a couple times on a snow run. I thought I had addressed the issue but wheeling puts forces on things that you can't always predict. Good news is the stop pin worked but suffered

the old was cut off and a new beefier pin and slide made, almost twice as thick and gusseted

as for the carrier popping open, I was able to torque on the spare when it was mounted vertically enough to re create the force that opened it. The gate would twist enough for the latch end to twist out from under the cap and let the pin jump out of the hole. So to keep it from twisting I extended the stop tab

and then welded on a hook to grab the tab and keep the gate from twisting away

after that I could not get the gate to open with the same force as before so hopefully that solved the issue completely.

For my 84 I was able to get the weber on and all hooked up, only thing left are some wires for electric choke and fuel cut off and I should be ready to start again with tuning and attempting to pass smog

I hate emissions.  That is the only big thing keeping me from driving my 78 as a DD work truck.

I want more info on the highlighted, and how big is the tank? Thanks!

The tank is about 19 gallons. As far as the highlighted part: when you pull the sender the fuel pump is housed in a reservoir. If you pull that apart you find the pump inside, mine was bad and didn't want to buy a new one when I didn't need it. So I just replaced the pump with some tubing so that it would still draw from the bottom. The float is just on a metal rod which can be bent easily.
