Programmers, best bang for the buck?
« on: Mar 01, 2007, 05:18:46 PM »
I found these on Summit for my 99 F-250.

Superchips Max microtuner for $340.  not really interested in that.
Superchips Flashpaq Tuners for $400.
Hypertech Power Programmer 3 for about $360.
DiabloSport Predator Flash Programmers for about $400.

The Diablo Sport looks the most appealing to me.  but i have no idea which one would work the best.

DP Tuner is junk, they came out with their own chip and are having lots of problems with them.  Like when you turn your turn signals, use your horn, etc. your truck dies.  i would avoid them unless you like problems

found this site from powerstroke.com

http://www.autoanything.com/performance-chips/61A1940A0A0A1908019.aspx

seems to have great prices

the Edge Juice with attitude is $150 cheaper then anywhere else i have seen.  i am thinking about getting that one and selling the gauge pod i just bought.  i would then need to get a tranny temp gauge since the edge doesn't have one.

I have a TS 6 position chip with 140hp extreme and it is wicked in my powerstroke. DP tuner has the best reputation hands down. Everybody online and locally praises DP tuner. There is nothing better that a custom tuned chip, and that is what Jody at DP Tuner does. I bought my TS chip off of ebay for 250$ last August and it works great. Install was a breeze in about an hour. TS has a great reputation and is pretty cheap on ebay compared to the much more expensive DP tuner chips. In 140hp I can roast my 35s from a stoplight with just throttle with a F-350 4 door longbox. I am considering getting a custom DP chip with the smoke setting to replace my TS chip.

With a chip, a bigger homemade air intake, and exhaust is a must as well as a Wicked Wheel or an ATS turbo housing.

Banks is a waste of money and doesn't give you as much power.
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

i did look at the hypertech, but i want something that i can program on the fly and has gauge readings too.  that is why i am considering the edge juice with attitude.  for just under $600, it aint a bad deal.

so far over there they have just been directing me to the DP Tuner.  I believe that is becasue DP sponcers that board.  they are telling me with that chip i can program all this crap, tune some of this other stuff, send in my computer and have it programmed.  i don't want to do any of that stuff, i just want a simple programmer that has all the important readings i need to see when towing.  damn, they haven't said anything at all about the edge and that is waht i told them i was thinking of getting lol.  "You should check out the DP-Tuner before you buy anything else"  i did and it doesn't seem like the one for me.

i think that it'll be better to just have something that is dependable and that has good power gains!

it comes with the edge juice with platinum monitor, not the attitude monitor.  i ended up gettting a separate temp gague.  so far i am really happy with it.  towed the 13,000 pounds pretty easily down to LA and back.  EGT's got into the 1100's on the grade, i kept them under 1200 though.
