Does anyone have left over parts from making dual cases??
I cracked the aluminum on the back part. this is just a leftover piece if you did duals.

Also if anyone has a pillow bearing from a two piece drive shaft Im looking for one of those also.

Thanks

I also have the t-case parts but I'd have to ship them from Pueblo.  Let me know if you need them.

No worries, just wanted to make sure you knew you were invited!  I still think we need to have more than 1 Toyota-based event throughout the year.  The CO4RJ is a blast.  I look forward to it every year.

Finally got some work done on the 4Runner.

If you remember, this is what my driver's side quarterpanel looked like with the 4Runner tailgate.

And what it looked like after converting to a truck tailgate

After quite a bit of welding, grinding, and laying my first body filler - here's what it looks like now

It still needs more sanding and some primer but it felt good to make it look somewhat better than it did before.

Also worked on the front bumper.  After adding a winch, the front receiver hitch is blocked by the roller fairlead.  I cut the Trail Gear winch mount reciever out and added a new piece of 2.5" x 2.5" under it.  I now can use both the roller fairlead & front reciever hitch at the same time!

With the winch installed

Installed the winch Monday night and realized that warn doesn't supply the M8000 with a solenoid bracket to mount the solenoid control box to the winch  :shake:

I had to cut off the forward facing light tabs to install the winch.  I also had to cut down and pound out one of my front rock light tabs.

Here's the Warn bracket for $12

Here's mine for free (minus about half an hour of labor)

What it will look like installed.  Still needs painted.

Also worked on the rear bumper on Monday.  I decided to cut out the rear crossmember that I had tacked into place 4 years ago.  I didn't feel it was beefy enough to mount a rear bumper to since it was only 1/8" thick 2" x 3" tubing.  The rear tailgate support is now welded to that crossmember.

Tailgate supports welded back onto the 1/4" thick 2" x 3" rear crossmember.  I used some 1/4" plate as spacers after having to cut & grind them off of the old crossmember.

Ready for a rear bumper

Rear crossmember isn't coming out any time soon  :D

Adding some 2" x 2" .120 wall supports towards the middle of the crossmember to an existing crossmember.  Should help with the heavy pulls from the planned middle reciever hitch in the rear bumper

Adding some corner gussets as well to help with those heavy tugs

Starting the tube work for the rear tube bumper.  Took my dad & I quite awhile to figure out the bender to get these 2 pieces bent.  Hopefully the rest will go faster.

looks good volcom. im heading the same-ish direction for my rear bumper too, round tube that is. are you gonna incoporate a reciever in it? did you ever so something about the tailgate being bolted to the mount without a rubber spacer? i read on rockfrogs (i think) about someone mentioning it, that the tailgate would bind during flex?

Yeah, the rear will be based off of a receiver.  It will be directly welded to the rear crossmember.  Same with the other bumper supports (they will be .120 1.75" tubing though).  The rear bumper will also get a swing-down tire carrier (not before the Jambo though).

I honestly forgot about the tailgate talk about possible binding while being flexed out.  I guess I'll find out :D

What about a bob in the future??  :eyebrow:

Looks great; are you pushing to have it painted before the Jambo or just concentrating on getting it trail-ready?

solid work.  I like the taillight replacements.  Did you bend/roll those corners yourself or does someone offer them?

just finished the bob on my runner. i decided to repaint the whole truck and get rid of the chipping paint- i went with white primer in a rattle can   :yikes: :shake: :puke:. i wanted an easily touch-up able paint scheme. oh well, function before form.

A friend of mine & I rolled them at his dad's sheetmetal shop.  I've gotten so many requests to make more & sell them.  Just trying to figure out a way to make them faster.  These took us 30 minutes to do (granted they were our first set).  I was tired of breaking stock taillights and at $30 a lens a piece, it was getting expensive.  These lights are $12 if I break them.

I've been rocking "function before form" for years now, hence the 5 different colors on my rig :D.  White primer paint job sounds like a perfect solution for a crawler paint job!

you know it doesnt look too bad. but you cant put dirty hands on it cause the dirt transfers. i left the rhinolining on the bottom of the truck and painted everything above it. i didnt do that great of a job trying to protect the lining. so its kinda ghostly looking. i have plans on removing the lining and painting there later. when i lived/worked in madison WI one of my workshirts was a barney shade of purple with a light yellow company name embrodoidery-- i lived with that so im sure i can live with an ugly looking paint job for a while. :rofl2: :hammer:

i just took a better look- you used the same lights i did- both brake lights and trun signal lights

Got some more work done on the rear bumper yesterday

Trying to get it sitting where we wanted it.

Reciever hitch for a rear tow point

Sometimes you just have to find the "right" combo of stuff to help hold your stuff level

Right side tacked, left side getting ready to be tacked

All tacked on

Trimmed the tube in the front to match the rear of the wheelwell.

Here's what the sides will look like.

Here's the rest of the bumper.  I'll need to notch and cut them and they'll be ready to weld in.

Another rear bumper pic

Frame tie-in for the front part of the bumper

Used a 1/4" scab plate on the frame.

The hitch pin hole is close to the rear tube but should work

Bumper support tube to rear crossmember.  No scab plate needed since the crossmember is 1/4" thick.

Rear reciever hitch tubing welded to crossmember.  I'll add a gusset to the bottom.

Side profile of the bumper.

Got some more work done on the rear bumper yesterday

it looks like my idea is the almost the same as yours for the rear bumper. the only thing i had different was that i am gonna try to bend the bumper twice so the bumper is also the bumper mount on the outside frame. but everything else is the same.. tell me how it works- then i can change my design to make it better

i see your side hoop is close to covering up turn signal- are you going to leave the hoop at that height and worry about the turn signal, i feel that those lights do not produce alot of light and even without a hoop there it might still not be seen. ( i know, i know- its a rockcrawler thomas= who cares.) just wondering?

it looks like my idea is the almost the same as yours for the rear bumper. the only thing i had different was that i am gonna try to bend the bumper twice so the bumper is also the bumper mount on the outside frame. but everything else is the same.. tell me how it works- then i can change my design to make it better

I was originally going to build mine that way.  I'm still learning to bend tube so I tried to minimize the amount of bends that I could screw up :D

i see your side hoop is close to covering up turn signal- are you going to leave the hoop at that height and worry about the turn signal, i feel that those lights do not produce alot of light and even without a hoop there it might still not be seen. ( i know, i know- its a rockcrawler thomas= who cares.) just wondering?

The turn signals are going away.  I kinda put them on as a temp fix until I could wire in a trailer taillight converter that I bought last year (to make the red LED's blink as a tailight).  Those yellow LED's are leak.  They can only be seen at night.  I'll just weld up the holes I drilled in the sheetmetal tailight holders.  The bottom inch or 2 of the red LED's might be covered but there's 4 inches of light above so that should work out OK.
