very nice looking... cleanest first gen in the area for sure.  if your heart is set on a flat bed i think i know someone who has a flat bed on a 2wheel drive early 80s toy that is just sitting....

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

another question...
for an easy lift i read that i could add 63" chevys to the rear and put the rear up front(with f-150 leafs to stiffen them up) everyone say hysteer is definitly needed.  I read on another post that the hysteer helps with the flex and steering issue.  So could i do the chevys in the rear, rears in the front and wait on the hysteer if i dont flex it.  Just use it for a DD, maybe a little muddin on the side?
one more...
other that the leafs and moving the rear perches what else should i plan on doing, needing to do the above mentioned swap?
Thanks for all the help-

Saying you'll try not to flex it is like saying ill try not to drive fast in a fast car... highsteer is pretty neccesary... unless i guess you could make extended bump stops to prevent flexing...

you can get some nice flex  from  stock toy front leaves  mixed with F150  2wd  leaves,  only use the top 2 leaves of the toy pack,

heres my truck with  my custom pack,  and stock steering

coyote-how many f-150 springs did you use and did you use any shackles? what about moving perches?

mado13

andy- good point on the flexing but im just tryin to save some cash for a bit.  Im still paying off the last truck. hysteer is definitly coming just maybe not right away!
on another note- i belive i found the ticking... i found some soot burns above the exhaust manifold and can feel a bit of air escaping.  Im picking up the gasket first thing tommorow so ill let everyone know.  Andy this means ill definitly be looking to do some wheelin when i come up, it'll be nice to wheel with another yota, all my friends roll around in jacked up 1 tons... they cant go places that my yota can!

i used the top two toyota stock front leaves, then i think the bottom 3  of a f150,  and the 3rd leaf of a stock  toy rear pack,  then  fairly much the same in the back

everything bolted up to the stock mounts  using the stock bolts  and shackles

i have 7 leaves in the back, top 2 toy then a leaf from a 2wd early chevy s10  then the third from the toy pack then a couple more from the chevy,  then the stock diving board

over all i shot for 3-4 inches of lift,  but  its not hard to get 4-5 inches

im not gonna be up untill around friday.
so i pulled the exhuast manifold to replace the gaskets.  Here what i found, all of the bolts were hand tight, one was stripped.  There was definitly a bad leak, lots of residue around one outlet.  The sad thing is this truck was in the shop before i bought it and had the head replaced.  The shop that it was taken to was super shop in Merced.  Im goning over everything i can get to that the PO said was replaced just to make sure they didnt make any other problems.  Man i know that my truck will never be visiting that shop again!  I haven't got the manifold back on yet because im still tryin to find a bolt but im almost positvie that that was the problem.  If it was ill be back on track and start working on puting together a lift!

mado13

ha!
fixed it! thank god!
a two hour job turned into an all day adventure but the noise has stopped.  I even have more power!  Im pissed that a shop would slack this bad but they did.   I informed the PO and he was shocked! he says he is not going to be using that shop anymore!  Next on the list is flatbed and im try to find some metal for some sliders.  Ill be checkin the junkyard to start gathering some springs!

86turboyota

are you going to custom fab your flatbed or are you interested in one thats already built... if you remember the ruhl's old toyota... the flatbed and truck are just sitting and im sure theyd let it go for cheap.
