Here are some pictures of the flatbed.  It was a bit dark so if you need any more pictures, please let me know.

I don't know the reason for that.  It came with the truck.  I think the reason is that instead of building a lower bed and clearancing for the tires, they just built it on one level.  I think they also wanted to attach it to the stock bed mounts.

79coyotefrg

if i was you i would make a long tool drawer  for under the bed  :eyebrow:

hottrod- is your frame shortened? and will you be leaving the tool box and tank straps on it?  So it just mounts to the stock bed mount?
looks like what im looking for. do the lights work?
Could you get a pic looking straight on from the rear?
Thanks-Marty

mado13

hottrod-what else r you not using on your new build?

Hottrod81

The frame was shortened a little bit.  I bought this truck as a project from somebody that didn't complete.  You can have the box, but the only thing that I want is the powertank holder.  I will get you another picture from the rear tomorrow when there is light.  I was going to build a tool drawer for under the bed like 79coyotefrg mentioned, but I decided to start building a 4Runner.  There is probably enough room under there to mount a spare with a little fabrication.

I have Budbuilt crossmember that I can't use on the 4Runner.  It will only match up to a 1st generation and I have a spare front solid axle and t/case.

Edit:  I also have some 63" chevy springs set up for revolvers.  The springs are like new.  I took them off because I didn't like them.

mado13

i might be interested in the t-case and crossmember.
could you also take some pics of a few of the welds?
what are revolvers?

megolfer

You also have the complete cab, 2 sets of doors, glass, colum, frame

Hottrod81

mado13

i might be interested in a set of doors.
what are revolvers?

Hottrod81

Revolvers allow for more rear axles droop.  They one shackle rests against the frame and when one rear tire drops to a certain point, the shackle will lower down from the frame providing more droop.  That's the best description I can give without a picture.  If you search, you might find some pictures of them.

mado13

okay, same as dual shackes?, when you take the pics could you measure the frame? Thanks
Your in tulare, right?

Hottrod81

I am Tulare.  I will get that information for you tomorrow.

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

update-
sorry its been awhile... had to pay for spring semster so truck got put on hold.  Next major project is put a new marlin clutch in.  Anyone have any insight on this?  I also got a hookup on a set of rear springs so i can start mixing up a set of leaf packs. I plan on  trying somethin like coyote's.  Any insight on this?
my camera took a crap so pics will be a bit but i plan on taking a bunch next chance i get.
also finally got to wheel the new rig!  Wasnt on purpose(my buddy sucks at givin directions) but the truck stood up to my expectations.
Also im looking for some mods to increase my power... i plan on putting a header on, is there any other mods that are fairly simple/cheap?

ya where im at in cali i cant get away with the straight pipe.  I have stock gears right now, is that 4:10s? if not what should i look for?

kneedownnate

Snag a free flowing monolithic magnaflow cat off ebay, should be able to find one pretty cheap.  Just make sure you get the same size as your exhaust system, then have a local shop weld on the flanges (if you wanna go that route).

That is one clean first gen.  Do you have any updated pics?

mado13

okay good news!... i found the camera charger so pics should be up tommorow.  With the flat bed im goin to be installin ill need to bob the frame 10in. what do i need to know about doin this? is it just a matter of markin and cutting the frame or is there some secret to it?
THanks

rednk1980

Just a word of advice when bobbing the bed be sure to leave that extra two inches on the frame incase you want to run the longer springs. (I didn't and now im kickin myself for it  :smack:)
