1987 FJ60 rear disk brake
« on: Dec 15, 2006, 05:20:26 PM »
Help!  :dunno: I just replaced my rear drum brakes with disk brakes. Problem is my parking brake is rendered useless.
Anyone out there know what to do? I ordered my conversion disk kit from Specter's Off Road. I called them to ask their help but they just told me to check on GM parts and that I'll need to modify things.

I'm no techi  and going nuts looking for a solution to this problem. I've searched online without any luck.

Please help.
Thanks,
Pacific Swell

Put in a line, just an example

http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/product.php?productid=74&cat=372&page=1

lockhttp://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&Ntt=line+lock&x=0&y=0&N=+115&searchinresults=false,

Some people dont like them because the pressure could bleed off. I wouldn't think twice aboiut using one.

Also try searching http://forum.ih8mud.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27

hope that helps

The only way to go would be to put a E brake on back of the t/c but you have to put a new shaft in the transmision to make it work.

Downey Off-Road has early GM calipers with a factory e-brake bracket. The bracket pulls from a different angel so you will need Downey’s e-brake cable kit. We just installed a FJ60 axle on a FJ40 using this kit a few months ago. Worked out great.

Some late 45 series had a split case with a drum park brake, I would go for a line lock myself or a disk park brake behind the t/case if you're worried about the redundancy part of the e-brake concept.
