Rear d60 disk brake help
« on: Jan 07, 2006, 04:44:35 PM »
I am wanting to put disks on my rear dana 60. Do I use 4x or 2x 3/4 rotors and calipers? The axle I have is a semi float if that makes a difference.

If your axle is semi float, I'm guessing it's 6 lug. If so, use half ton Chevy rotors. If it is 8 lug, use 3/4 ton Chevy rotors. In either case, the calipers are the same dimensions so will bolt in place of each other but the 3/4 ton calipers do have a slightly larger piston for greater clamping force.

I am just assuming it is semi float. It is under an older dodge 3/4 ton at my uncles house and I havn't had alot of time yet to look at it. It still has the hubcaps on it. I plan to have it at my house hopefully by this weekend.

It will probly be a 30 spline FF and you use 3/4 ton 8 lug GM rotors and I like 1/2 ton calipers for the rear especially with a toyota mater cyl. you can buy the adapter plates for that dodge 60 on e bay for cheap but be prepared to grind they don't fit well.

I had been looking at the brackets Blue Torch Fab sells. Anyone have any experience with them?

3/4 Dodge=FF 60 w/30 spliners. The semis came under few trucks (J10s, heavy1/2 Chevys, etc.) Blue Torch makes some awesome parts and Dan is a great guy to deal with. I haven't used his caliper brackets but I'm guessing the quality is on par with the rest of his products. I have used Great Lakes Offroad brackets (Pirate or EBAY) and they worked perfect. I had a Ford 60 so they were slightly different. When I got them they were $45 shipped with hardware, I believe they are currently around $60.

Yeah I just went cheap on a build and bought Great Lakes plates for a Dodge 60 to GM calipers. I had to  grind more than 60 thou out of the axle radius to get em to fit. I would use blue tourch every time now. saves the aggrivation

I've heard Blue Torch has some damn good parts, worth the little extra money for the quality
