West coasters look away... this is for us east coasters only....

The Leonids Meteor shower is Nov 18th, best time to view is 11:45 p.m.

Check out the story...

For those living in eastern North America, the constellation of Leo will be rising in the eastern sky.  Unfortunately, those living across the central and western parts of the United States and Canada will be out of luck, since Leo will not yet have risen and the expected peak of the display will be over when Leo finally comes above the horizon.

Expectations are that as many as 100 to 150 Leonids may streak across the sky in only an hour's time.

The expected time of peak activity is 11:45 p.m. EST on the night of Nov. 18.

And as luck would have it we're going to be out on a night trail ride with our Jeep club and the forecast is for clear skies!! :woohoo:

I normally go out about 14 miles in Reddington Pass and kick back in a lawn chair for the show. The Leonids and Geminids are both winter showers. We have laws that limit night lighting since we have so many observatories in the area, so the show is nothing short of awe inspiring. I just don't want to be out during the Arachnid or the Hominid showers.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first.

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.

well you can't go anywhere for these, unless you take a road trip to the east coast. It's not going to be viewable in your neck o' the woods.
