new to toyotas. where to start?
« on: Nov 11, 2006, 09:34:18 PM »
i just bought a 1985 toyota 4x4, 4cyl, at, long bed,4:88 gears, lockrites f/r, 33" mtr tires, lift?  ok i just sold my 92 wrangler with dana44 axles and dana300 t-case and now want to build a toyota for rockcrawling only, (trailer rig).  i have a tubing bender and welding machine and not afraid to use them.  im not sure if i want to remove the front clip or not, along with the doors.  i have already removed the bed and want to build a flat bed with a interior cage and exo cage.  but not sure if i should replace the leaf springs with longer chevy springs first. so i guess i should ask before a waste money and time, i have lots of time but not much money.  any help or sugestions ?

since your running 33's  im gonna guess you have some sort of lift,  but  F150 2wd  rear springs  seem to flex better than 63 chevies

but we need pics man, to  see where you are to be able to tell you  the best route to take

Besides all the sheetmetal adjustments and usual add-ons (lockers, lift and such) doubles or even triples should be #1 on your list.  :yesnod:

Best suggestion I could give you would be to start searching through people's build threads.  You would be best off doing some leg work yourself first, gather up some ideas you have and then start asking questions.  It's tough to just ask other people what you should do cause you're gonna get conflicting views and differing opinions.  Might not be a bad idea to introdue yourself in the newbie section too :welcome:
