1980 to 1990????'s
« on: Oct 10, 2006, 04:27:05 PM »
Hey I have a 1980 toyota pickup with a good 20R for that I got for $200. I can get a 1990 P/U for $150 with no engine. Is it possible for me to put my 20R in place of the gone 22R? Is it a difficult swap? Input? Ideas? I am planning on a solid axle swap as well. The reason behind this swap is so I get a newer truck with A/C, power steering and many other features including Heat! Thanks

Chris

If there's no AC in the old truck, there's no AC in the new truck. and going from EFI to carb isn't necessarilly a good swap.

Yes, physically it can be done, but then there's the WTF are you thinking aspect of the swap too.  I think that's what 4" was getting at.  The only way I could ever see running another 20r would be if I was just putting it in a truck to sell.

Well, My 1980 has a bad frame and the 90 has a good frame and body so why not? And I mean is it apretty straightforward swap? Like motor mounts?

Basically what I wanted to do was get the 1990 truck and swap my 20R engine in there but homeskillet tells me otherwise

yeah, it's usually best not to go backwards in terms of engines.

hmm,  well i just emailed a guy  thats looking for some 20R engines,  and  you could  use the 80 tranny  as a core  on a Marlin tranny  for that truck,  but  dont let anyone near that 80 tcase

insane  builds 20/22 hybrids,  therefore  he needs 20R engines.

he  could possibly  buy  your engine  or  swap you a 22r,  also  was the 90  a 22RE??
