I just got a 1990 4 runner with a blown motor for $200 nothing else wrong with it that I can tell yet.  I bought it from a buddy he says drive line all in good shape.  It has a auto tranny in it.  I have a 81 and an 83 Toyota Pick Up.  I recently bought a 5" lift for the early 80's trucks.  Can I switch this around to work with the four link and coils and do a solid axle swap using what I have or would it be better to go with an all new lift for the 4 runner?  Any help would be appreciated :headscratch:

the 4 link on the runners is pretty much crap i must say i have a 4in lift from procomp on mine but the drop braket for the lower links are mad rock hangers kinda sucks. the 5 in lift would work if youdid the sas on it. if you are planning on running that runner i woudl look into a motor swap for it as well jsut a heads up if its the 3.0 get a new engine also the auto tranny can not be dual cased so look into either swapping in a 3.4 with auto or a different motor. just thought i would give you a little info on that runner.

I will be posting pics as soon as I pick up the 4 runner.  I have paid for it.  I just have to pick it up.  Its at a buddies house.  I work at a college and we are getting ready for the school year to start super busy on top of that I have a 4 month old son so I have been busy at the house as well.  Thats why I am switching to a 4 runner from the trucks so I can take him wheeling in a few years!

I have heard that there are problems with the auto tranny being weak and the motors expensive to work on.  Whats the deal should I look for a stock replacement and keep the auto tranny or should I look into a Chevy v8/v6  also have been told the chain driven transfer case not to good.  I have two gear driven transfer cases at the house should I do a doubler kit?  Remember I am still learning about Toyota's and off roading in general.   :headscratch:
