bubbling battery

my battery poped the cap off the other day. it was steaming a bit and making noise. still seems to be working fine but i can hear it rumbling. what could be causing this?

Make sure your charging system isn't over charging it. Also if it has shorted cells it will do this.

Sounds like over charging.  regulator problay is having a brain :fart:   and if frying your battery   probaly at 16V-18v

i just replaced the regulator 2 weeks ago.

Have you measured the output of the charging system?  or tested the battery?

:slap:  quit getting that junk from autozone

now  check with a ohmeter  and see what the voltage output is,  if over 15  its gonna fry the battery

Autozone actually carries good regulators.  Hard to believe I know, but it's the truth.  I'm with mark, if it has a bad cell it'll do this even at a low charge.  Half the time that's how I know to pull a battery outa rotation at work, one in a row of 6 in series charge will start spewing.

I just had this happen on my old truck, it seems that from bouncing around on the trail some sediment kicked up and shorted the battery out. I replaced the battery and it solved the problem.
