almost looks like the sensor for your backup (reverse) lights that screws into the t-case.

but it would help if you posted where you pulled it from.

It was never connected to anything. Well when I bought the truck it was sitting on the passenger floorboard with the wires connected to it. Whenever my truck has any power. The backup lights come on. I noticed a llittle farther down the wire, theres a rubber grommit, so it must lead to something outside the cab so it might connect to the tranfer case for the light assembly. Theres a grommit missing from the rear of the cab at the bottem corner. Thanks for the input guys

if you look on the passenger side of the t-case around where the speedo cable screws in you'll see it.

It is NOT the t-case switch.
All t-case 4 wd switches will always have a pig tail.

It does look like a back up light switch on a L43, or W50 transmission.
It appears to have a 14x1.50 mm thread.
Could be the E-brake light switch?

This switch is normaly open, so if your back up lights are on, the wires under the truck must be connected togeather.
The back up light switch is located on the top of your 82 L45 or L50 trans.

I checked ot the plug again, I was wrong. I meant it was connected to two wires, one was red w/black stripe, and red w/blue stripe. I got it to where my backup lights came on and then I depressed the switch and had something hold it there. And w/the switch pressed the backup lights turn off so it does have something to do with the back up lights. I have an  L45 tranny, its a 4 spd. All I see comind out of the t-case is the speed sensor thing, anymore held would be great! Thanks

yea its just a reverse light switch.

when your transmission shifts into reverse it sets a signal through those wires which tells the reverse lights to come on.

if you look on the tranny page on marlins site you might be able to find it

On this pic it's just below the shift rail on the side of the tranny.

if you still have the original tranny in the truck then that picture is not accurate. if it has the original tranny then the reverse light switch will be at the drivers side of the tranny at the top you wont be able to see it from under neath or from the sides your best bed is to pull the shifter boot and you might be able to get to it good luck

this is where it would be if the po didnt swap the tranny but the switch does look like the ones from the 79-80 tranny which might be why its not connected he could of swapped a newer tranny in and discoverd it didnt work

Yeah, I do have something in that hole connected to a pigtail like that.  In the same spot. I thought my truck wasnt an SR5 cus the gage cluster was messed up (the one without the tach). So I swapped in an SR5 tach whichI dint have to rewire anything. Plus a lot of things were dissconnected when I bought it so I've come to the assumption that it was a beater/parts truck. I'm thinking the tranny was swapped out before. So i'll try it tomorrow. I do have the shifter boot off so I can see where the switch goes. but the "Mystery Part" doesnt have a pigtail connector. From the switch, it goes straight to the main cab wiring. Plus it has grease and grime on it like it was outside of the cab. So I'll figure it out. Rhanks for all of the help youve all provided me with.

ok the switch you showed a picture of is for a 79-80 4 speed but your truck had a newer tranny swapped in corect so thats why the the wiring doest match what you need to do is cut the wires going into the old style switch then get a plug that matches the one on the pigtail for the newer style switch or get a whole new plug set and rewire both i dont think the old style switch will work i think there will be clearance problems between the tranny tunnal and the switch  i dunno if that makes sense but good luck

You know, yotaboy79, your right, I never thought about trying to rewire it. I'll do that on monday. Truck isnt at my house. But I dont really understand why I have a connector to a 79-80 pickup, This makes me wonder if pretty much everything was switched in this truck cus the plate says its an 82. Thanks for the input

oh for some reason i thaught the truck was a 79 or 80 :smack: it could of just been that the switch went bad in the tranny and they got the wrong replacement and never put it in?
