1991 22RE 31x10.50s, cold air intake, trd cat-back exhaust, otherwise stock.  I get 22 mpg consistently.  This summer at lower altitude (7200 ft where I am now) I could get 24-25 mpg.  In the mountains and wheeling I don't usually see less than 18.

I'm curious to see how the 3rz boys are doing with big tires, lots of gears, etc.  I was thinking of going 7mgte, but if 3rz milage is good, I could be convinced.

I always got right around 14mpg with my 83

Life . . . should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a attractive and well preserved body --- but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, beer in the other in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, "WOW - What a ride!"

I think the question that arises for the guys with bigger tires and gears is, have you had your speedo calibrated?  Do you truly know what your mileage is?  Your truck will usually read a hair faster than it's actually going with the stock setup so it's still not 100% accurate, but if you change stuff it's hard to get it exactly the same.  Just throwin it out there.........

The gas mix in Cali reduces mileage, when I went to Moab I had to gas in Vegas, but on the way back I stopped in George, UT and then drove all the way home and that was on Utah's 85 octane.

yeah, but it reduces emissions(hmmgh, cough, hack, ugghhh), right?  Making our vehicles run lean with horrible fuel and tight emissions restrictions is GOOD for the environment, right?  :ha_ha:

~17 MPG mostly highway on a 1985 22R with 245k and 32" Swampers and 4.10 gears then I swapped it out for...

~16 MPG on a 2003 4.3 Vortec with 5000 miles, 35" Toyos, 5.29 gears.  I run the Vortec pretty hard though because it's actually fun (and noticable) when I slap the skinny pedal. :burnout:
If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.

kyle_22r

when i had the original 20R with weber and a bad vacuum leak in my '79, it got about 20mpg all-around.  now, with a 22R bottom end, 20R head with oversized valves, a dying 22R carb and a bad exhaust job(my fault) it's getting about 16.  hoping to improve that when i get off my butt and put the freshly rebuilt weber and offy manifold on, and fix the exhaust.  doesn't bother me too much since it's no longer my dd, but i'd like it to run well again.  i'm just running 31" swampers that are about the size of a worn 33" bfg.

my '91 with 235 tires and a 22RE, 5 speed gets about 23-24mpg all around :ladys-man:
