johnny who?
« on: Jul 07, 2006, 08:59:01 AM »
Wondering if any of you have any experience with johnny joints from currie....i am toying with the idea of using the 3" joints for upper rear shackle mounts and would like your input on this. AOR had there joint/shackle combo, and are no longer around. I know that people use them , but don't know anyone that does, so pics and others of the like will be greatly appreciated so i can move foward with my build. Is this a solid way of getting a bit more out of the rear suspension? thanks in advance

I can't remember who has them, there are shackle sleeves instead of bushings that have a 10 degree amount of movement to them.  I wish I could remember where I saw them!   :help:

Deaver sells some bushing replacement/johnny joint alternatives...is that what you're talking about? I think the have 18* of movement, but they're kind of proud of them.

I just looked them up. Are these them?

I've got the early Orbit Eye springs, I really like them. The new ones are even flexier. Check into the at Alcan. I know they make the springs still, I don't know if they sell the eyes separately.

Dang man...you did some digging! But fresh off the Alcan site the new Orbit eyes are now listed at 46* flex.

I don't know if it's EASY, but it is condensed! My eyes start crossing on about pg.5!

Shackle mount NO, but you should not have a problem with them in the spring cause the frame side will keep the shackle from leaning and causing the rearend to move from side to side.

I have the Orbit Eye Springs in my 85 Toy. The Front has only front eyes. The rear longer springs have Front and Back Orbit eyes but not in the shackle though.
Mine were from AOR. They used my truck for a Build up for Off Road. The Only problem Ihave had is the eye on drivers side front slides over . I think I can tighten it But that spring sags bad. You also have to weld wider hangers to use them.  I Cant complain for Free . I am going to order 2 new ones for the front soon .  Lynn

I just got off the phone with Alcan myself and it turns out you need to buy their springs to get the orbit eyes. The eye in the spring is larget than the stock spring and you can't use them.  :smack:

I was all ready to order them, but I want to go 4 link soon and can't see spending that kind of money just for a couple months.

I think the swivle plates are going to be the way to go for me.  :flamer:

I sent Big Mike a drawing of my design just before he left. I will have to find my copy and get to work on them. I am sure he could use them too when he comes back. :gap:
