Anyone plan on going to this Cal 4 Wheel event? Me and some Victor Valley 4 Wheelers will be there. Last year was pretty fun :driving:
Here is a link to the web site http://www.cal4wheel.com/

We went last year, and were the ones that got DQ'ed in the turtle race. I think we were just too slow for them with Marlin's Ulitimate. We had everyone beat by like 5 mins. but it wasn't the truck I registered for the run. Don't think I can make it this year though gotta work.

I'll be there friday thru monday. I went last year and it was a good time for sure. I actually got first in the turtle race by default, only problem with the trophy is it has a jeep on it  :stopit:

Hey Al, have seen the post of Pirate about the new hub gears Bobby Long has made to replace the stock gears? They brake at 8500 ft lbs, and the outter gear brakes instead of the inner and keeps it from stripping out the stubshaft splines. Going to get me some to save the Longfeild stubshafts

nowhitefenders

Chase, I was thinking Achy-Breaky is there? If so maybe that one or unless you know of a better one. I was considering doing that for a NWF run, and read its hard to find, so I would flag it along the way at HDR and come back for a winter run...

We did some of achy breaky last year but there's a bunch of trails that hook up with it so it gets kinda confusing. I did empire last year and the only real challenge is the first canyon, the other two are weak. We got stuck on the first canyon behind a BUNCH of jeep guys that were not prepared for the severity of the canyon, 33's and one locker and lack of driving skills made a short trail take 4 hours. Not fun at all. I plan on doing pumpkin eater since it's listed as the hardest they're running on sat and maybe doing doran on sunday. Dennis

Yeah Chase, I wondered what I would break next. I figured I'd need to start taking spare hubs.

Dennis, Doran? Isn't that Calico? Where the heck are we going?

Nevermind. I just checked the map. It is up near Calico, a little southeast.

They'll have a run sign-up board with all the different runs for you to look at. FYI Empire Strikes Back is a very tough run as is Pumpkin Eater and Ackey Breaky.

Did pumpkin eater last year, it sucked. The group was so big they split it in 2. Well one half did one part then the group I was in sat in line for hours cause the waterfall was kicking everyones ass, and thats all it really is. Never made it to were the other group had gone. Thats all I did that day, this year I will go to pumpkin-eater later in the day when the traffic is gone and hit it.

Sunday I will be going to Calico also with the club, hopefully we will do Doran. Well at least I will go do it :driving:

Rocksurfer

The waterfall had about 5 waiting to try on Sunday, other than that it was empty. Everyone plays the games Sun. nobody is on the trails.

Sounds good. Definitely looking for a tough run. Would you say you just listed the degree of toughness in order?

Chase, maybe we can hook up for Doran Sunday.
Ya' gonna camp out?

I have to work that weekend so I won't be there, personally I had the most fun (trouble) with Empire. If you do Empire just be careful with the drop-off at the mine, Chris Gieger's Allpro rig rolled there when we went out once and did it on a club run. It is very decieving. the minute you make the right turn your left rear will leave the ground, even well travelled rigs experience this.

I got my paperwork back from the event saying that I am confirmed and registered. Said I was #101, which I thing is a typo (thought I was #1)...
I did't see trails shown on the website but have seen it on the paperwork. So is achy-breaky gonna be that bad (disappointing?).
Thinking I may just roll up there early in the morning with the coach, I need some sleep (I get grumpy with lack of sleep??? ) and stay the night on Saturday or Theresa will boycott the event.  I think I am gonna need the motorhome to take home all the cool prizes from the raffle.  :smack:

I honestly didn't think Empire was that hard. Although from looking at your pictures our rigs are set up a bit differently. That downhill corner at the mine was gnarly though! I hate parts like that.  :puke3:

Al, you just sign up for the run you want to when you get there.

I'm pretty close to stock, so just about everyone is set up a lot different than I.
