hy-pinon with ARB
« on: Apr 26, 2006, 01:28:24 PM »
Is this worth $800? Hi-pinon 3rd with 5.29 gears (he thinks Yukon gears but doesn't know) and an ARB?  I was planning on running an aussie locker and having a friend help me setup some 5.29 gears in my front axle but now I'm wondering.  It's basically like the ARB is costing me $400 rather than full price of $750 but it's money I wasn't planning on spending.  $400 could go towards duals  :dunno:

Yea, I reread that and it didn't make sense to me and I wrote it  :hammerhead:

My question is that setup worth $800?  Thanks for clearing that up  :turtle:

Assuming it's in good shape, $800 is cheap...relatively speaking of course.  Don't forget that you'll need an air source, solenoid valve, and some pneumatic and electrical bits and pieces to make it work.

The Marlin website actually lists the hi-pinion, ARB, 4.88 third member for $1595.  They do not list the 5.29.  I suspect this could be because of the past (present?) difficulty in getting these gears but that's just a guess.

I run ARB's in both ends.  Totally awesome off-road and completely invisible on-road which counts for a lot on a daily driver.
If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.
