It is a lovely concept, but it won't do much of anything for planes...jet engines don't care about horsepower...they work using thrust, essentially creating a pressure differential...only way to do that with a reciprocating piston assembly is through a propeller...the propeller limits the possible airspeed of the plane.  Even with the best technology in variable pitch, a prop will never have the speed capability of a turbine engine.  Better bet for replacing jets are pulse detonation engines...but they are still in early development.

that would be an excellent mod to put in any vehicle, assuming they can get it to work properly. i'd gladly use my truck as a test model tho.
