Another tool discussion: TORQUE WRENCHES
« on: Apr 20, 2006, 06:24:07 PM »
OK...now that I got my engine all ripped apart, I should get me a reasonable torque wrench to put it back together.  So, lets discuss our preferences, brands, prices and bargains.  The only kind I've ever used has the needle reading the bend of the wrench shaft.  What else is there and what will do the job without costing me $200.00.   :headscratch: :help:

Harbor freight.  My grandpa has one, and that thing is still dead on after 5 or so years of use (auto mechanic)

I have a powerbuilt (shucks brand) torque wrench. Accurate to +- 1-2 ft pounds basically. Works pretty well for like 50 bucks or something like that.

I use this, not to expensive and works resonably well.  Click type with dial, the bean bender's are totally useless.  I know there are better ones but I'm not a pro mechanic.

Different tools for different jobs. They are useful, but for different things. Maybe not rebuilding an engine, but perhaps good for testing the pinion preload when setting up gears.

Maybe. I'd rather use a dial
