The bump stops I installed on the front of my rig compress so much that is allows my Bilstein shocks to fully compress and bottom out just before or at the same time as my bumpstops. I assume bottoming out the shock will damage it. Somebody tried to tell me that these shocks have a built in stop so they will not be damaged. Can anybody shed some light on the subject? Thanks

Bilstein struts have built in bumps don't know about the shocks.

If the shock is bottoming out then there is no movement in the shock anymore. This means that it is basically a solid rod transfering all the energy straight through. If it doesn't damage the shock it will eventually break your shock tower or crack your frame.
Lower your bump stops a little.

Didn't think about that, that's how I ripped my shock tower off when a front shock siezed on Swap last year. The tower does not make a very good bumpstop, it's not designed to take the load.

I was afraid of that but I think it will be the only thing to cure the problem. I am running All Pro buggy leafs, once I re mount the bumpstops I will have 2" or less of uptravel before the springs negative arch. They are brand new and sit flat, so they will probably sag so they sit on the bumpstop all the time. I think my truck is too heavy for them.

I haven't put my bump stops on yet and I am gone to pay for it :smack: Have Bilsteins and now my front right leaks all over the place, blew out the seals I guess, so I am prettty sure there are no built in bump stops. I would lower them and I should install mine. :slap:

Not to jack the tread, but does anyone no if the 5150's can be rebuilt, and if so what shop? :crossed:
