What's the Deal with Birfelds?

i have not broken any in the last year. but i have been running 30 spline longs for the last year.
before the 30 splines i broke 3 stock birfs, 1 ringed long and 3 inner axles.

I see that I still am the only one who has broken 4 in the last year.  Thats really sad beacuse I've only gone wheeling 10 times including my last week at moab.

I know Dirtmover is running his stock birfs. Can't figure out for the life of me how he has kept them alive over the years. He's in a full bodied runner on 37" Irocs and I've never seen Rob shy away from a challenge. The man can drive.

Think of it as 9 trips and 1 broken stock birfield and 1 trip and 2 broken Profields and 1 stock birfield.

The traction in Moab causes more stress on parts than most other places.

well the 30spliners held up now I just broke the pinion.  My lock right held up this time and so all i need to do is replace my r/p thankfully I have a spare before this weekend

Don't feel bad. I know people who have broken many more than 4 in half that many trail outings. They don't know how to turn on a computer though.

When I wheeled my IFS I broke a 3 CV shafts and one front ring and pinion. I only wheeled it four times.

Knock on wood...5 years and counting on an original set of ringed Longfields.

But you won't find me not carrying spares!

I posted three broken. But not in one year, that's total.
Once turning around at Bobsled, at LCIR in Warner Springs (SoCal), once falling into the crack at Bobsled and last year on Jack.

That's enough trail repairs for me. And what, $150- $200 in parts?
I've got to get me some 30 spline Chromoly Longs.

well that why I went to longs.  I figured that 3 birfs and 2 cromo inners in 2 days (not broken but stripped splines due to broke birf parts) was a sign that I needed some 30spline longs

none in the past year (i've owned the 27 spline long's a little over a year now).  b4 that, i broke 2 (stock everything except 5.29's w/lockers and 33" mtr's at the time)--the first one should not have broken in my opinion--granted most of weight was on the side that broke, but was barely moving, wheel straight (didn't have crawler at the time) and was dirt (ohio) w/only 33's--the second one was a no-brainer and i was glad it was a stock one since something else would have broken.....was spinning at redline trying to get up a greasy rock when truck slid and slammed into another rock--something had to give.....
went w/the 27's in case (heaven forbid) bobby ever quits selling the longfields/can't get parts--the stock parts will work w/them if needed + bobby told me the bell themselves are interchangeable if i ever wanted to upgrade (swap out inners and the inner race)

I haven't broken one yet because I was smart and got some longs at the same time I put in my front locker.  If I hadn't I'm sure I would break one everytime I go out without a doubt
