How long of shocks?
« on: Feb 01, 2006, 06:17:03 AM »
This is my first build and I have no idea what length shocks to run? I am gonna put rears up front (4"-5" of lift) With shock hoops. And on the rear Im gonna run chevys with 2" add-a-leafs to equal around 5" of lift. I am gonna run them slanted like this -/--\- on the rear. So what size do you guys think??

Shocks are over rated, my 4-runner didnt have any shocks, that thing was a blast to drive on the freeway, talk about rocking the boat!  Heh Heh, i could get the front ende to bounce about 1ft off the ground  without shocks :gap:

The shocks under my Runner are out of an 03 Super Doodie.  :eyebrow:    13 bucks a peice brand new from the Zone.I have a 4 inch lift and they don't hit anywhere, flexed with duals, nor do they bottom out. I had to make my own bushings, but it was pretty easy.

whiteman, my advise would be to stop doing that. yes its fun but it will also tear a hole(s) in your frame around the shackle mount.

as for shocks, i would just go and grab some 12" es3000's for the front because i think if you go longer that there is a risk of bending them a buddy of mine did when he took on a curb  , im going to run 15" travel es3000's in the rear. my friend had pro comps and all for corners with rears in front, and f250's in back, and that thing rides so damn smooth. just my  :twocents:

the best way to tell is get every thing mounted up then flex it out and use your tape measure

race runners are really hard for daily driving, but on the trails it feels like you are floating over the washboards and the double whoops
