How many lights are too many?

I was curious.  I now have 6 lights including my stock headlights on the front of my truck.  How many is too many according to the law?

I like bright and the option of brighter , so I want to add more (underneath and on top of the cab), but I don't want to get in trouble

i think the max is 4 that can be on at anytime,  offroad  as many as you got battery and alt
i ve been going to get my sis at night and last night she said  "dim your lights for that car"  i said "   they are dim "    then i put them on bright and she was like

Thats not a lot of lights  but they do look good  and if they get smashed    atlease they don't cost much

As fer pouring money into the ford, I had the lights layin around so I figured to throw em on since I had the time and motivation today

it's to hold my wires off my intake manifold.... I had em sit on it when I was drivin once and it melted em to a crisp

you can have as many cheap lights as you want. take a look at the pre-runners they usually have no more than 4 high quailty lights on the front. a good light will have a good beam pattern, lens, reflecter and bulb housing. cheap ones suck!

in CA you cant have as many lights as you want..... if you look @ the link i sent, it shows whats legal...... even offroad ligths are mandated on a truck that is street legal and registered in CA

Auxiliary Driving and Passing Lamps

24402.   (a) Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two auxiliary driving lamps mounted on the front at a height of not less than 16 inches nor more than 42 inches. Driving lamps are lamps designed for supplementing the upper beam from headlamps and may not be lighted with the lower beam.

(b) Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two auxiliary passing lamps mounted on the front at a height of not less than 24 inches nor more than 42 inches. Passing lamps are lamps designed for supplementing the lower beam from headlamps and may also be lighted with the upper beam.

24411.   Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a vehicle may be equipped with not more than eight lamps for use as headlamps while the vehicle is operated or driven off the highway. The lamps shall be mounted at a height of not less than 16 inches from the ground, or more than 12 inches above the top of the passenger compartment, at any place between the front of the vehicle and a line lying on a point 40 inches to the rear of the seat occupied by the driver, shall be wired independently of all other lighting circuits, and, whenever the vehicle is operated or driven upon a highway, shall be covered or hooded with an opaque hood or cover, and turned off.

When you turn on all your lights at once and they shut your truck off, that would be to many.


Seriously, I used to have 4 on my lightbar 2 in the grill and then the 2 factory lights. I now have the 2 in the grill and the 2 it came with and it's plenty bright for me.

On the roundup, RUGER and I were cruising along, he flipped on his rocklights (front, middle, and rear) and all of a sudden, it was dark   he blew the fuse on the lights.  Glad that was all it was, but it was definitwely a good thing that fuse was there

I had the same problems with my light bar and is the main reason I took them off. Just one more thing to go wrong that you don't really need.

If it makes you feel better, there is a kid out here at school with a TJ and he has 8 daylighters on it. It looks like a joke, not to mention that it is a jeep. He has 5 on the roof and three on a winch bumper without a winch on it.    Silly Jeepers.

I say if you cant see any bumper through all the lights that is too many. I didnt see your in-laid lights until I looked closer so I'm sure you're good, as long as you dont run down the road all night with all 6 on.

Sometimes I do cuz my main headlights suck real bad, even on high beams.  And like I said, I like it bright so I can see.  Livin in the country, I've hit my share of deer and seen my share of horses hit  I'd rather look like a tweeker and have light than try to be cool and end up hitting a horse
