I might be up for it. I should have my 4.7 case in the Cruiser by then. I've been planning on an overnighter up there anyway. If you don't mind the floor, I have plenty of it if you need a place to crash Friday night.

Mabey I'll just drive into fresno to meet yall but its a 4 hour drive and i'll find a place to park my truck and trailor on our way up to the trail.  Yep, I want get mad at you for calling me a trailor queen.

Hey Big Mike mabey you can give some cross roads close to the trail I could look for an area to park my truck, I looked on the map for the bald mountain and all i can find in the Sieras around 45 mins. north of Fresno.
87' Samurai, Dimond-F, Tacoma-R, 5.29 F-detroit R-spool,6 Stud knukles, 4-link coils F&R, Duel Marlin chromoly 4.7 Toyota T-Case, 39.5 TSL's, 8000 lb winch, 6 piont cage, Full Hydro, Sidekick 1.6 16V, Thourly header, LongField 30 splines, 115" WB, crawlin @ 459:1

I could care less for turtle points.

freds40

Best cross streets would be Highway 168 and Dinkey Creek Road. Bald takes off from Rock Creek road which is off of Dinkey Creek. When I was up last weekend, I just backed my truck and trailer into a snow bank and off loaded right @ Rock Creek road. There are a few turn outs along Dinkey Creek road that have plenty of room to park.

Ok guys, We have decided to leave the Starbucks Parking lot at 9AM SHARP.

For the Early Birds, we are going to meet at the Clovis Denny's for Breakfast at 7:30AM.

Here is the Address for the Clovis Denny's:
Denny's: 710 W Shaw Ave, Clovis, CA 93612

I have made a couple of maps also so you can see where this Denny's is in reference to the Starbucks.

It is just off of the same Hwy168, only 2 Exits before the Starbucks Exit.

As you are moving through Fresno/Clovis on Hwy168 East bound, you will pass McKinley Ave, Shields Ave, and then Ashlan Ave.
The next Exit will be Shaw Ave. Exit on Shaw and make a right-turn heading East on Shaw Ave.
Merge over to the granny land (right lane) and go down one stop light through Willow Ave, and make a right turn into the 2nd driveway past Willow Ave for the Denny's.

The Denny's storefront is on Shaw Ave, so you shouldn't miss it. It is located on the South/East corner of the Shaw Ave -- Willow Ave Intersection.

lilbuddy and I will be there at 7:30AM that morning, so anyone else is welcome to join us. Then we will leave there and make one last stop at the Starbucks before 9AM, and then we are gone at 9AM.

About the best I can come up with right now. http://www.wunderground.com/US/CA/Shaver_Lake.html

It has been pretty warm in the Valley lately so I imagine there is not much snow. When I was there 2 weekends back, at the bottom therer was about a foot and a half but it was raining and sleeting. Hopefully it will cool off a bit before that weekend.

BTW, just picked up my 4.7s so they should be in by the end of the day Tuesday.

Not sure 168 is the best place to leave your truck. The Sherriffs can get ahhhhhh finicky about people parking there, as in they would probably have you towed. Dinkey Creek rd is a lot less traveled and there are plenty of places to park.

Tex, why not just go to the starbucks if you know you will be there before 9am?

Also, if you are going to be ahead of us, how far up the road do you want to go before waiting for us to catch ya? I know of some good spots to get out and wait, so let me know what you plan to do.

Man, I really wanna hit the snow!!!

Hey, I just checked the weather for Shaver Lake (3500'), which is over 5000' below the 3rd climb (last and hardest climb) on Bald Mountain (Base: 5700' / Top: 9100'), so it might be better to look at the weather for Huntington Lake, CA (7000') which is a good inbetween-majority of the Trail's elevation, and in the same basic area.

lilbuddy, I don't know of any updated online weather report for Bald Mountain itself, nor the Wishon Springs or Cortright Dam areas (same road and about same elevations) because they are pretty remote. I guess there could be a tower with a temperature sensor that is relaying the information somewhere, but someone would have to drive up there every day to measure the amount of snow coverage and that won't happen..

Some comparisons right now in that area:
At 3500' (Shaver Lake City) the temperature is 44° F
At 7000' (Huntington Lake) the temperature is 27° F
So Bald Mountain has gotta be in the mid-low 20s right now :eyebrow:

Just for kicks (as I never trust extended forcasts), predicted for the next ten days:
Shaver Lake: Supposed to Snow 3 Times
Huntington Lake: Supposed to Snow 4 Times

You could also check the Ski Report for Sierra Summit, which is located right next to Huntington Lake, and has a base elevation of 7000' and a summit elevation of 8700'.
Here is the webpage for Updated Reports on the Ski Resort: http://www.sierrasummit.com/current_conditions.php
Also they have what they call a "Sierra Summit Snow Phone" line that reports current conditions via a voice recording, and is updated twice a day. The 24 hour phone number is (559) 233-3330, which is a Fresno-area phone number, but if you have free long distance on your cell phone, then why not.

I'll be checking these things out the day before we leave for sure
Right now there is a reported 6' of snow at the ski resort :woohoo: which is the same elevation as bald and in the same area :sly:

Wooohooo Im getting excited. I am going to weld on my front hanger and frame tubes tomorrow. Then friday or Sat I am going to put together my front axle. Also Friday(pay day) I am going to order my tires. :hyper: I am going to run them on the same ol crusty 'runner rims that I got my 33's on. I wont have the dough or time to get my steelies and DIY beadlocks by then. I shouldnt have any problem running 38x12.50 on my 15x7 rims right? Should be any different than the 33x12.50 that I have on there. Damn thats going to be a long drive out there. I think it took me about 3-3.5 to get to the shop last week. That was pedal to the metal too. I may be going a bit slower this time too cause of a lot more weight. I am going to have to leave at the butt crack of dawn. :shakehead:
