Whats wrong with NWOR 22RE headers?????
« on: Dec 12, 2005, 01:32:26 PM »
I've been checking the past responses on headers and NWOR doesn't seem to be well received.

Whats wrong with them :dunno:

Their headers look the best quality to me.. I have had one.. know a few who still have them....  huge flange thickness, you can run them without a gasket... collector is a ball joint style, doesnt leak... very high quality in my opinion... a little spendy.. but its a lifetime header to me.

I thank you all for the quick replies.
I have only read about them in their catalog and liked what I saw.

I want to improve my power from idle to 3000 rpm and doubt that I will be going over 5000 rpm.

All of the headers I have found run 1 1/2 or 1  5/8 primary tubes with the exception of NWOR, which runs an 1 3/8 primary tube. It seems to me that the 1 3/8 primary will give me the greatest low rpm power improvement.

What mods have you done to your engines?
What size exhaust pipe are you running?
Where does your power start coming in at?

Thanks

Glen beat me to it.  People don't have a problem with the hedder so much as they do with the company themselves.  I have a nwor hedder and it's the best built unit I've had, but just like downey, nwor has kinda gotten full of themselves and their customer service has suffered.

I have heard that a place called "Stans Headers" in Auburn Washington makes the NWOR header.

Anyone know if this is true?

I checked Stans web site but their Toyota header doesn't have any smog stuff and it looks like an 1 1/2" primary tube.

Buying headers for the 22R-RE is like throwing money out the window.. The best exhaust mod is to remove the restrictive factory pipes (which were 1-3/4" on my '84) ,  muffler and catalytic converter,  and replace them with 2-1/4" pieces and a high flow cat. Or you can buy a header and replace all that stuff too and get the exact same power gain as if you didn't buy the header. If you get the header though you can show it to your buddies and they will buy you beers because they think you are cool. :hammer:

That's sorta truish, but not really.  It depends on which manifold you have to start out with.  At some point toyota supposedly set up the manifolds for better scavenging, but it's by no means a match for a well engineered header.  But, not every header is gonna give good benefits.
