whats wrong with it?
« on: Mar 25, 2005, 11:36:44 AM »
I have a 93 xtra cab. sometimes when i shift, the park brake light will come on(the handle is all the way in) and it seems like the pads are rubbing up against the front rotors constantly. anybody had this problem before? would it be that i need new calipers? :dunno:

if its your parking brake light you may first want to check the e-brake handle it might not be all the way down.but if it feels like it is draggingif is most likely your drums.the are adjusted wrong were they are rubbing on the drum.

Your front pads are probably shot.  The worn pads have likely caused the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir to drop (pistons in the calipers are WAY out to compensate for worn out pads).  Theres a float switch in the cap of the master cylinder that will illuminate the brake light in the instrument panel if theres low brake fluid, due to a leak or worn pads.

My suggestion:  pull your front wheels and inspect the pads.  The rubbing noise is probably a wear indicator dragging on the rotor, telling you that its about time for new pads anyway.
