Not totally gone, they blew up a part just past gatekeeper.

Hyena

Wow, are they trying to help the rubicon or hurt it.  blasting rocks doesn't help it.  This sucks now.  The only hard part on the trail is LS and that will be blasted in a bit.  The rubicon isn't considered a hard trail anymore.  It is prolly down in the 1-2 range now.

derek

i will see first hand friday.
but as i understand it, it was some of the big boulders in gatekeeper and some right past it.
tempted to take my honda up tonight and check it out.

derek

Hyena

You could prolly take your honda all the way to spider now.

MiniSimp

They basically moved part of gatekeeper to the aligator pit, there was an underground spring that they covered with the blast rock because of erosion.
Pretty soon they will be offering tours on a bus through LS.

Hyena

the pictures show they blew up the big 3 rocks in gatekeeper and then 2 rocks just past it.  gatekeeper is totally gone now.

derek

yup the big rocks are gone, judging by the pics.

Unfortunately with all the carnage vultures that hang out at the Little Sluice defecating all over the place this is the plan to eliminate the destruction they are causing to the area and Spider Lake. The next plan is to blast and doze Little Sluice thus eliminating the reason all these people hang out there.

geeze, what the heck..

cruzila, fill us in, why was this done? Why don't we just pave the whole rubicon trail so that momma and the kiddies can take their minivan up to the springs?

It says through out the post why it was done...

But from what I understand, it  was from a spring that was just above gate keeper and it was causing a lot of errosion and us (4 wheelers as a whole) were "making it worse".

Its a load of crap though.....

I'll not discuss this here. Take it to the FOTR list.

Only the beginning. First Gatekeeper, next they'll be paving Little Sluice and eventually the entire trail. Sounds like they want to make this trail into a Highway.

This is the sh...itty reality that we're gonna have to face as wheelers, seems like the tree hugers have an upper hand on the outdoors for one reason or another. Do your part and help save our sport before its completely gone.

What it really comes down to is IF there's enough honest good hearted wheelers then we can over come the shutdown of trails. If no one cares.. then this will continue.

Nice thoughts, but the grim reality of it is, once the damn tree-huggin hippies get involved it's over, because the government is liberal biased and will always lean toward the overly boistrous, loud mouthed emotional rants of the hippies.  Once they jump up on their chairs and start screaming, yelling and crying it's as good as over.  Welcome to california!!!!!!

I guess it can't be called Gatekeeper anymore since it isn't there.

BigMike

Well if it's gone, then who is guarding the gate?

Hubba Hubba, I would pay that toll.

No gate, No gate keeper.

Somebody needs to make a plaque that says

" This is the sight where Gate Keeper once stood  keeping the unworthy off the trail. Let this plaque stand in its place to warn you what lies ahead"

Do any of you rember the trail to Loon Lake before they raised the dam? Just6 to get to where the cabin is now from Wentworth Springs and back was an all day trip. The big granite blocks on top of the dam were part of the old dam when Loon and Pleasant were two seperate lakes. The building of the new dam was the beginning of the end.

motorider228

i havent read most this thread because im late for work but would it work if people imported rocks? perhaps making it harder  :dunno:  maybe a lame idea to move huge boulders but its just a thought....
