Who own's a RC rock crawler?
« on: Nov 20, 2005, 07:22:30 PM »
I've recently been introduced to the wide world of RC crawling. First instinct was "bah just stupid toys" until I saw how LIFE LIKE the Tamiya Bruiser's are with the Toyota shell, drivelines, axles with all working internals, engines with geared down trannys, beadlocks.. billions of aftermarket parts.

Looks like an awesome hobby, thinking about getting one in the near future!

Anyone have one or would care to share some cool Toyota RC crawling pics/vids?

dude... i was thinking the same thing you were, at first i thought ok..... they're toys, now i see that they go over 40 mph and can catch serious air plus their suspension is kinda cool.....  anyways..  if you go to

www.hobbytron.net          they have some real cool ones that can go REALLY fast and do jumps and stuff they kinda expensive tho($300-400) ( b/c thay are gas, go fast and they are top quality) ).

nylint makes a scorpian buggy in 1/6 and 1/18 sizes. o yea did i metion that these nylint ones are pretty cheap $40 for a 1/18 and the 1/6 is $200

http://rccrawler.com/

they have some stuff there too

I started getting hooked when the nylints came out. I bought a 1/18 heep a few weeks ago and have since modded the hell out of it.It has a chevy truck boby, four linked rear, cut and turned tires, flat belly and lots more to come.here's a pic.
88 Toyota truck ( Under Construction ) Dana 60's front and rear 5.38's, welded diffs, 3inch Downey rears up front, one link rear with aerostar coils rolling on 39.5x16.50/17 Pittbull Rockers and 17x9 Pro Comp extreme alloys.http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=40816.0

dude, you should just get one one those gas nitro RC racers, they're about $300 and they go about 40 mph. you can jump um, race um and rock crawl with um

or you could get a nylint 1/18 and mod the heck out that,
either way its cheaper than the toyota

why r u so interested in the toyota anyways..?

I'm selling a T-maxx (nitro monster truck) with a rebuildable aftermarket motor, some mods for pretty cheap. Comes with SUV body mounts and a Gravedigger body. Willing to let it go pretty cheap.

I have one of the Nylint 1/18 scales.... and a little Nitro RC chassis (well, no body).  They're a blast!

I'll check into it tomorrow when my heads clear.

You mean the Tamiya Bruiser?  I just like them because they're so realistic compared to most!..

The toyota thing is just a "shell" and can me easly changed.

I have two T-maxx's and a clod buster.  The T-maxx sucks for rock crawing but is hellla fun to jump.  The clod buster kick's ass in the rocks.

I have an HPI .12 gas engine in a 4x4 rally car, Mitsubishi lancer body... blah blah.. i built the entire thing, carbon fiber parts and all that stuff.. Its fast but its made for street (belt driven)  sooooo...im not really "new" to the RC hobbie persay

These Tamiya model's i'm looking at are completely different then that though. Honestly I dont care about going fast in it I just want to make a flexy crawler so I can take it up with me to the trails or make a cool little track in my backyard with rocks and obsticles.  Just sounds entertaining to me.

Post up some pic's if your selling so I can take a look at 'em.  :)

how much do you want for it?
does anything work on it? does it come with the radio? is the body ok? is it ready to go or does it need assembling?

So I plunked down $45 bucks at walmart, $50 for some boggers, and have spent the past 2 days locked in my apartment.....whatya think?

my mods include

-2.2 inch wheel conversion

-tummy tuck

-boggers

-beer can body panels

-fabbed mounts for inboarded rear springs

-extended droop links to 3.8 cm

-cut fenders

-mounted battery in engine compartment

This thing can crawl like a mug and has very good sidehill capabilities.  It can also crawl over a stock nylint!

They are sweet.....what did you paint yours with? hammerstone?  The easiest mods to do are flip and cut your tires, put battery in engine compartment (more realisitic weight distribution) and inboard the rear shocks...way more flex.  I'll post some more pics when I get home from wizurk. ;)

I have already angled the front shocks more and put a single rear shock in the middle for the rear, it gives it alotta flex., I want to do a tummy tuck next.
The paint is 4 colors of rattle can and laquer, custom job   Everyone thinks its just that stuff that does that in one coat.

nylints are ok for their price but you get what you pay for. its what i had to start off with and it was fun but nothing like a custom tlt 1/10 scale
check rccrawler.com their site rivals this one with endless information. i speant about 1 mo reading before i got mine. how do i like the hobby? i  love it, i just wish i had more friends that had them. and THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GAS CRAWLER.  seriously gas is the worst way to go for a crawler.
dont take my word stop what you are doing and go to rccrawler get your education on.
nylints are still toys
but to each is their own

i agree for the most part. i would say nylints are GREAT for their price. how much did a tlt and parts cost?  The reason why people love nylints is cuz most of the people that own them have 1:1 rigs that they sink ALL of their $$$ into. (you can probably relate to this?) My buddy is trying to build a gas crawler right now. For some reason i think my lil scorpion will kick its ass!  plus the fact that i bought it off the shelf @ wal-mart and he spent like $500 on his makes it even cooler. :bandit:
