Can Toyota master cylinder handle 60 brakes
« on: Oct 28, 2005, 05:13:40 AM »
Well as some may know i recently swapped in 60s in my 89 turd. im doing some searchin around and curious if my stock master cylinder will handle these massive brakes on my front 60. ive been told yes and no so i need a for sure if they can or not. people told me to down grade to the 3/4 ton 44 brakes and the toy master cylinder will be able to handle these. im just looking to be able to get away with running the 60 brakes till summer time. What do you guys think

Well, you've already got the larger booster (3rd gen yotas), so if your stock master cylinder can't get the job done, then swap it out for a FJ80 master cylinder. The FJ80 does have larger calipers than the V6 IFS minitruck, but I have no idea how it will do with D60 brakes......

But for sure, your best bet (conventionally) would be to use your stock booster with a FJ80 master.

The stock setup will stop your truck...eventually. Easiest thing to do is use your booster, get a master out of a 1 ton GM and make the adapter. This setup will stop you no problem and the master can be had for less than $30.

No it wont.   They wouldnt stop my halfton gm brakes they are not gonna stop 1ton brakes. you need to upgrade to a 1ton m/c  anything smaller will not do the job correctly . I upgraded to a 1 1/4 vette m/c  the adapter plate is easy to make  ( piece of 3/8ths or 1/2" with 6 holes drilled in it minus the center hole for the m/c)  and you need to pick up some 3/16ths line nuts and reflare your lines ( few bucks)   the toyota line is basicly 3/16ths.  Dont screw around with brakes and run somthing inadaquate ..   ..  and all the guys that say they can stop their 44 brakes with yota m/c's  are pumping it a few times ..

My brother used a 3rd gen booster and master to run his dana 44's and it could handle it. It can break but seems like the booster doesn't have enough vaccum to release the calipers. In that case, when he does drive it(occaisionally), he hooks up a hose to the booster vaccuum release  line and with a valve, he purges it evertime after he uses the brakes(stop lights etc.....). sounds kind of wierd but it works. don't recommend for daily or city driving conditions but it works for a quick trail run. He's upgrading up to a chevy booster and master cylinder right now. will keep everyone posted on how it works.Thanks.
