IFS carnage and SAS
« on: Oct 18, 2005, 09:31:35 PM »
this is the story of the little IFS that could, not wheel anymore. the other day i bought a 7.5 carrier and prceeded to weld it to slap in teh IFS just because. in the process of the tare down i saw that the ring gear was broken, and not from wheeling with the welded carrier. it was as open as a cat house at 2 in the mornin.

now this is also my daily driver so some of you may laugh at me for this but i dont care. if you put the cv shafts back in the hubs and remove the drive shaft you can drive around pre-runner syle.

you dont need the shafts in there ... just cover the hole with plastic so no water and road grime gets in.... you dont want your axle shafts bouncing around while you drive ...

:yesnod: I drove my IFS 4Runner to and fro without the front in while I put a locker and 4:88's in too. I took the cv's out and just tie-rapped a couple shower caps to the back side.

you have the same toy as me, that is neat, i took a small o-ring and put aroung the output shaft of the motor to make the belt tighter so it doesnt slip and now i keep breaking stuff left and right

those things are so cool, my dog hates it though

ok so the swap is going to take place next week. ive alraedy got the front hanger welded on and i just want some opinions for the rear shackles.
ive got marlins shackles that came with the hanger and was wondering if it is easier to torch a hole through the frame or use drill through with a holesaw. my torch is kinda messed up and doesnt like to cut very smooth.
also ive noticed that my IFS driveshaft flange has the same pattern as my 8" drive shaft flange, if i get the shaft lengthened is it usable, if so to what extent. cause i was thinking about the sqare shaft.

Yeah, turn it 90 degrees and re-drill the hole to match, or I think you can buy the flange from marlin.
