SR5 cluster (tach) 4cylinder to 6 cylinder conversion
« on: Sep 18, 2005, 03:41:01 PM »
Hello anyone know of a way to convert a factory 4 cylinder Sr5 tach to read accurate with a 6 cylinder? We are talking about the 86 to 88 era. Thanks :crossed:

I have a tach from a 1990 that had a 3.0. I'll trade you if they will interchange.
I'm not very smart, but I can lift heavy things.

You need a 6 cly tack/cluster.  It's the 'pick-up' the signals the tack, and a friend of mine put a 4.3 vortec in his 85 runner, and used a 88 v'6 tack/cluster..FYI
95 4 runner. 4 cyl dual ultimate w. R150.  V6 rear w spool.  New Chevy springs on 12" extended frame.      Front.  SAS w chromoly shafts.  And spartan    In frazier park ca 93225

Sorry bud but they're different. 1988 was the last year in the trucks and 1989 was the last in the 4 runners of the style thats in your rig.

Though on a good note you can "tweak" your 4cyl. tach to make it read true on a 6 cyl.

Pretty basic but fairly delicate so definately play gently! I've done this to my tach when I went with the 4.3l.

Heres a good link to get you started..
