where are you all getting those things? And Mike when you mean tweak'n do you mean that you can adjust them to get more flex and stuff? They flex damn good, now if you could just shave the bottom of them axles for more clearance!

We got ours from WalMart for $44 which includes the truck, radio, charger, and battery. It does not include a 9 v battery for the radio, so make sure you pick one up as well. With the 9v, it came out to about $48 with taxes.

Here are some more sites. It's made by Nylint and Manufactured by FunRise Toys:
http://www.funrise.com/brand.aspx?id=5
http://rccrawler.com/funrise.htm

They make two different body styles, the Yellow Scorpion MK1 and an Orange Jeep Wrangler. Two different scale sizes are available, a 1:6th scale (huge, $150) and a 1:18th scale. We are using the cheap 1:18th scale models.

As for tweaking the trucks, some of my mods are classified until we compete on Sept 1st. I dont want those Office Girls to discover my true Engineering Talents until I smoke their butts at the competition.

But in general, the stock toy is pretty much garbage. It is way better than any other toy RC car I've seen that's made out of 99% plastic and sold at stores such as WalMart, but alot is to be desired.
-- The original ride height was really tall, this was good for ground clearance under the battery tray, but it was rather top heavy and would roll over like nobody's business. So all of us have chopped the springs to get the CG down.
-- You will notice that the control arms interfer with the differential housing. So out came the drimmel and we've all hacked up the plastic on both the arms and the diff housing, increasing it's up travel.
-- Also, the steering server box is a huge eye sore atop the front diff, and once you've increased the up travel, now the steering box is interfering with the front of the cab at the fender wall. So we've all trimmed the fender wall back, allowing even more up travel.

Those are pretty much the basic mods that everyone has done. It will wheel wwwaaaayyyy better after doing just these three things.

I've done heavy research on the way the axles flex and some other areas that are still classified. Right now I can rub my rear tires into the roll cage on the body. But I can not stuff them like Dean can in his first picture. I actually don't believe that picture because the track of the rear end is much wider than the body, so I believe Dean removed the rear links in order to take that cool picture. You see, Dean is so nervous about us Shop guys, that he is doing everything he can in order to frighten us, but it's not working

I am still researching how to get my front tires stuffed while still maintaining as much down travel as I have now. That 5.25" flex is a benchmark for me and I will strive to improve that before Sept 1st.

But remember, just like in the real world, all the flex could be good or bad, it just depends if you have enough downforce on each tire to maintain traction.

I am wondering the same thing because I want to look at a couple things in the front axle, but the wheels must come off first.

I've seen pictures of the wheels off, and the axle shafts have square tapers on them, so I am assuming that the hub caps come off and then a screw or hopefully a bolt is at the center..

first thing i thought was to find taller tires...atleast that'd get you more ground clearance. They need to make these things like the XMODS...you know buy better parts. Imagine, diff brands tires, gears, adjustable spring rates. Hmmm, I think im going to go get one.

figured out how to get the wheels off.  grab the hub cap with a pair of pliers and spin counter clockwise about quarter turn.  it will expose a nut in the back and a screw in the front.

Well Mike I have to say I was very impressed with the work you have done. Really nice rig. But the fact of the matter is your going to have to step it up a couple of notches to compete with the big boys. Here's a little something I call FLEX WITH THE SHOCK ON!!

You will notice I hired a co-pilot.I got some great feedback from him. Hey I noticed they had some small Barbie's at Walmart.  Maybe you and the guys out in the shop  could go in on a group buy and get a few. OH one more thing after the comp. Dave,CJ, Axle and myself will be holding a class on  "How to build a RC rock crawler." If you guys a interested there will be a limited amount of seating at the lecture. But the hands on lab will be first come first serve. Good Luck  HEHE HAHA HEHE HAHAAAAA

Hey Mikey he sure aint very good at keeping his secrets to himself! Check out the added clearance here. I went to Wally Mart tonight to find me one of these and they ddint have any. Either they are sold out or they are lame and just dont stock them. I'll hvae to try the Wallymart in the next town over. Better be lots of vid and pics of your competition!
Edit: I looked back and notice that you have already done this, SOB! He must have something else up his sleeve! I have to get me one of these. Thats my mission for tomorrow!
