80 transfercase on an 85 tranny? Will it work?

I have an 1980 transfercase..  will it bolt onto a 1985 tranny?

AS LONG AS THEY ARE BOTH AN MANUAL TRANNYS-YES

The 80 is a top shift and the 85 is most likely a forward shift.  They will work but you need to make a plate to cover the shifter hole on the back of the tranny cuz the shifter will now be coming out of the t-case.  You will also need to cut a hole in the floor for the new shifter location.

it may not be, i have had 2 85s with a top shift, and now have an 87 with a topshift

Might not be, but most of the 85's i have seen around here are forward shift.  I guess we will see.
