This may have been addressed already, Maybe not?
You guy's are supplying dinner for the first 200 registrants for MCR4.
Does that include their riders/spouses?
I just thought about that. because if it does then you guys are going to be feeding 3-400 people
If it's been addressed then point me in the right direction & just delete this post :gap:

I don't mean to hijack this, but I figure this is a good thread for MCR4 coordination issues/questions.

What are the exact directions to where we will be meeting up at the trailhead...

a couple guys on the Caravan Thread have said something about going toward Wentworth springs:

50- Ice House. About 7-10 miles past Pollock Pines, you'll see the turn on the left. It's about half hour-45 mins. back to Loon from there.

Quote from: twin60s on August 10, 2005, 05:20:55 AM
the turn off of icehouse road to the trail is Loon Lake, Wentworth springs, and if i rember right the sign is shot up a little and turned kinda sideways. you probly wont be going fast enough to miss it.

But according to the NorCal TTORA site the directions are:

The most popular trailhead is at Loon Lake. Take highway 50 east from Placerville. Approximately 21 miles past Placerville, turn left on Ice House road. Follow Ice House road for about 25 miles. When you come to the fork in the road, stay to the right. To the left is Wentworth Springs (the traditional Rubicon trailhead) and to the right is Loon Lake, currently the most popular trailhead. You will pass two dams while driving around the west side of Loon Lake. At the end of the second dam, take a left and head down the spillway. Climb up the granite slabs and head for the trees. As you drop down the other side, stay to the right. This trail leads to the gatekeeper obstacle and the beginning of the trail.

From what I remember from the original MCR4 thread Mike said something about going across the dams.

Thanks  :beerchug:

Yeah both dams are on loon...the first one is very narrow and short on assphalt, but the second one is gravel, wide, and a bit longer than the first.

Thanks FFC, I got that, the point is, there seems to be two entrances from Ice House Road, one forks to the left and goes to Wentworth Springs, which, according to the documentation, was the old entrance. The other forks to the right, and goes up past the dams and is the current popular entrance.

Freds40 and Twin60s seem to think we/they are taking the fork to the left, to Wentworth, but from what I read on the original MCR4 thread we are going to the trailhead past the dams, which is the right fork.
I just want to make sure we are all on the same page, or trail, as it were.

Freds40 and Twin60s can go whatever way they like but we want to be sure to meet up with the Marlin crew, so I want to be sure we're at the right trailhead. We would love to caravan but unless someone is going to tow us we are going to be slow going so we have got to get a head start.

Don't know about everyone else but I'm taking off from Loon. The left I mentioned is from 50 onto Icehouse. Icehouse then climbs up out of the valley. The turn to Loon is to the right and it follows the lake around. Wentworth is the primary route for snow wheeling as Loon is closed in the winter but many still use Wentworth in the summer. Are you guys bringing the battle cruiser to the trail head or leaving it down below? Loon has a ton of parking for larger vehicles but if you decide to go all the way through on the trail, you have to drive all the way back in to Loon to get to your tow rig.

Hey Fred, Thanks for the info, that's the directions I have. Cool

As far as the battle cruiser, no, as I mentioned on the caravan thread, my sister is coming up from San Francisco to doggie sit in the LBC, so we wanted a good secure place to set up, as well as having full hook-ups.

We will be setting up the battle cruiser basecamp at the Placerville KOA (which is actually in Shingle Springs, 6 mi W of Placerville) .

If all goes as planned we will be there Thurs. afternoon. Anyone who will be in the area then or lives in the area and would like to stop by and say HI is more then welcome.

It's still a 40-50 mile drive to the trailhead from there, so if it's an uphill climb we will need to get a running start.  :driving:  :burnout:

And that way too we don't have to go back up to get the rig, it's on our way back down 50.

We are brining food for 400 people. Looking at the registrations, we have an average of 2 people per rig.

So we will ask that the frist 200 trucks (drivers and passengers)  be allowed through the food line first.

Each truck will need to bring $15 with them for the Rubicon Springs Camping fee. We will be collecting the fees and forwarding them to Jeep Jamboree.

We did not expect the kind of turn out that we have had for this. We now have over 300 trucks planning to attend. We simply can't all drive together with such a large number of rigs. We ask that if your able to make it to the springs on your own please do so and we will see you there. We plan to be at the springs all day Saturday so we will have plenty of time together.

For those that need help getting to the springs we will be leading small groups of trucks starting Friday moning.

This may have been covered but I didn't see it...the Rubicon Springs....is that the campground right before the second dam? :headscratch: if not where is it? just a ballpark idea :dunno:

The Springs is after Buck, @ the bottom of the long downhill section when you are down by the river.

yes, the jeepers jamboree and jeep jamboree go every year.

If you have to ask where the springs are you better get a good head start or come in the TAHOE side ;)

Plenty of room with all the camping spots in the trees off to the left.

I usually camp at the trailhead, don't pay much attention till I get there so I wasn't sure where the springs are :hammerhead:

FIREBALL

Hey Chris, are you guys going to have a generator there, or do I need to get one in there for the music? If I do need to bring one, does the mog have room? and what day and what direction is the mog coming in from?

Don't worry about camping space, there's plenty.

FFC, the springs are about 2/3 of the way through the trail from Loon. It's closer to the Tahoe side, between the bottom of Cadilac Hill and the bottom of the Big Sluice Box along the Rubicon River.

camp is closer to the tahoe side? cause im closer to the tahoe side, that would be great!

*FFC*

Ok, ya now I'm confused.  So coming from Loon it's through the trail a ways? So if I came in through the Tahoe side I'd have less trail to hit? I'm not even sure if I can get my rig to camp :dunno: if it involves goin on the trail...just cuz I'm not sure if I'll be done with it by then... :headscratch:

this is why I said if you don't know where it is you might want to start early..

It is for all practicle purposes the END of the trail. Sure there is cadillac hill still but you will need to go through the majority of (difficult) trail to get there. Yes, quicker from tahoe although there is a lot of annoying bumpy dirt road from that side so distance (mileage) wise is the same but not difficulty wise..
