IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

what the deuce. so i understand the gearing down aspect of it but when you are on the highway how would that work. would you have to double :pokinit:. or just leave the back tranny in say fith and then shift through the front. what the crap. i'm confussing myself
is it bad when you unplug the power wire from your stereo and it still plays

hes going to have to reach into the back seat to shift. thats if he has a runner. imagine it in a pick up. getting out and reaching into the bead to shift. ha

He could just put the second tranny in 4th gear (1:1) and use the front tranny to shift around town and such

A guy on pirate did something somewhat similar... I think a 5 speed to a 3 speed to a single 2.57 chain drive case.
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

i guess you could put the second tranny in neutral too.

holy crap would that be some serious low range. i have 4.1 gears with a granny gear that is 5.7 to one and its almost too low for me. i can only image dual tranny plus triple case. insane

On the road, I'd say leave the front tranny in 4th (1:1) and shift the rear tranny. I would think there would be less ware in the system that way. The idea of being able to do it is cool but the fact that toy trannies gearing is pretty high in first gear doesn't make it a viable solution in my mind. Tons of gears to choose from is cool but really you can get more overall gearing out of triple cases and still be shorter.

I've seen a few people do dual trannies using sm465s. That would be a cool setup because you can run a bulletproof 205 behind it and even with the 1.92:1 gear in the 205, the 6.55:1 gears in the trannnies would still put you at or above 350:1.

A single tranny with dual cases with a 4.7 is going to be lower than dual trannies and a single 2.28.

I can't wait to see the rear shaft and the shifter setup...might be cool though :dunno:

No joke. Dual W-56's Clocked up, my rear d-shaft is around 34" long (not too bad) front is 50" long.
The reason why,......why not. No need for regearing axles(just put one of them into 3rd gear for road driving)
50 Forward gears! Gear selection is unreal! The rear shifter comes up roughly where the seatbelt bolts are. I could build linkage to move it up but this rig is a budget build and I'm stretched on time.

damn, man...kinda redefines the spotter/copilot job, doesn't it..."mike, put er in first!"

what is the overall legth on that thing?  and all you need is a couple of Heims and some tubing to move the shifters forward...

UNBREAKABLE

overall length is 59"....my rigs are all x-cab's, longbeds, or 2nd gen 4runners so I have the wheel base to do crazy things like this

I painted it white just to be funny.

Duffil

what are you gonna run for a crossmember...

UNBREAKABLE

I am making my rear using some thick 5/16 diamond plate and a factory rubber mount. I have a second mount in the adapter plate (if you look in the pic you can see the mounting holes

not quite a fair comparison, but people thought the same thing about dual cases once...I'm just glad to see someone have the balls to do it with w56s!  :screwy:

So true
Time to go wheelin!

UNBREAKABLE

I want to do it with an R150 next All I have to do is use a coupler like the one for the 4cyl t-case to v-6 tranny.

I have also been wondering about doing something with an automatic. I have 3 here at the house along with an R150 or 2 and a few assorted w-series and L-series.

I will have more pics tomorrow. I nearly finished the rear x-member today. I will finish it tomorrow along with the d-shafts and the front x-member.
