if i add my stock rears, 3 leaf w/overload, to the front of my ifs rig when i sas, how high will it lift it/ anyone running these with no addaleaf? pics are always good!

MiniSimp

3 leaf rears in the front will be inverted with negative lift.
You need to add more leaves, 6-7 is about right.

crawlerdan

you think it would be lower than ifs?

I have a friend running completly stock rear springs up front on an 83.  He loves them the overload leaf seems to keep them from going negative at ride height

crawlerdan

good stuff minisimp, ill add two leaves or so, i dont wnt alot of lift, 3 or 4 maybe

83 rear springs have 3" more arch than 84+ rear springs. Check out Roger Brown's site.

83 rear main leaf on top, 85 rear main leaf on bottom

Built my spring pack for my "Rears up front"
They should be nice compared to my currently reversed springs.
Opened up the clamps. Need bushings.

Specs:
1st leaf: 85 1st leaf
2nd leaf: 85 2nd leaf
3rd leaf: 85 3rd leaf
4th leaf: 85 1st leaf cut down
5th leaf: 85 3rd leaf cut down

Depends on spring rate, arch, width.

crawlerdan

stock rate and low arch 2.5 wide

MiniSimp

Try them out, mix and match, find out what you are happy with.
That's the best way to find out.

crawlerdan

i agree, i just have no patience... :headshake:

you will have axle wrap so bad with just 3 leafs that under flex and load it will bust your u-joint from putting the yolk to max and it will bottom out..even with the over load..most of the time this is only a problem going up hill when the weight is off the springs,,,it can get real ugly upfront with only 3 leafs..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

I have 5 in mine and it gave me almost 4 inches of lift
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

ditch the overload, its a rock anchor

add 3 leaves you cut to fit below the 3 'rear' main leafs(no overload). the springs you add can be 6-7mm leafs near 2.5'' wide. keep all the spring clamps and even weld something across the top to keep them together...

Make sure you don't just toss the load leaf and not support the main pack, if you don't they'll bend and possible break. Always have a load leaf to a pack that requires one.

 :bull crap:
Count how many people are using an overload leaf for their front springs (rears up front) in this thread: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265669

How about 0, but we wouldn't want a misinformed MCBB member to be the first.
